Learning and teaching kidney anatomy thorough dissection: an experience report by LANEF UNIFAL-MG

Resumo: | This article proposes to report the experience about the event “Renal morphology workshop” developed by the Academic League of Nephrology (LANEF) of the Federal University of Alfenas (UNIFAL-MG) intended for students from the first to the last year of medical school. Moreover, it was used an active methodology for consolidation of the study of renal anatomy, through the dissection of swine kidney, once dissection is a pedagogical method that collaborates to the construction of knowledge, and the swine kidney has great similarity to the human organ. Furthermore, the knowledge of renal anatomy is essential to understand the pathophysiology of nephrological diseases. The activity was carried out at the Laboratory of surgical techniques of Medicine School (FAMED) of UNIFAL-MG. Fifty medical students from UNIFAL-MG took part in the activity; twenty five participants in each shift of the event. Dissection kit, gloves, swine kidney, tray, lab coat and the dissection manual with instructions were used. Then, the experience of the event for the league members was extremely important for developing communicative skills and team work, also learning from the act of teaching others. For the participants, the activity allowed them to gain knowledge and review the renal anatomy, also to build an association with the renal physiology and have a solid knowledge about nephrological diseases in the future. Besides, it also allowed some students to have their first contact with surgical instruments. |

Este trabajo propone relatar la experiencia sobre el evento "Taller de morfología renal" desarrollado por la Liga Académica de Nefrología (LANEF) de la Universidad Federal de Alfenas (UNIFAL-MG) para estudiantes del primer al sexto año del curso de medicina. El objetivo del evento fue utilizar metodologías activas en el estudio de la anatomía renal, utilizando la disección del riñón de cerdo. Ya que este es un método pedagógico que contribuye a la construcción del aprendizaje, y el riñón de cerdo, a su vez, tiene un gran parecido con el órgano humano. Además, el conocimiento de la anatomía renal es fundamental para entender la fisiopatología de las enfermedades nefrológicas. La actividad se realizó en el Laboratorio de técnicas quirúrgicas de FAMED UNIFAL-MG. Cincuenta estudiantes del curso de medicina de UNIFAL-MG participaron en la actividad, 25 de los cuales fueron participantes en cada turno. Se utilizó kit de disección, guantes, riñón de cerdo, bandeja, bata de laboratorio y el guión que contiene la disección paso a paso. Por lo tanto, la experiencia del evento, para los extensionistas, fue extremadamente importante para el desarrollo de habilidades comunicativas y el aprendizaje de la enseñanza y el trabajo en equipo. Para los participantes, la actividad permitió aprender y revisar la anatomía renal, además de permitir la asociación con la fisiología para comprender mejor las enfermedades nefrológicas. Además, también permitió, para algunos estudiantes, el primer contacto con instrumentos quirúrgicos.Este trabalho propõe relatar a experiência sobre o evento “Workshop de morfologia renal” desenvolvido pela Liga Acadêmica de Nefrologia (LANEF) da Universidade Federal de Alfenas (UNIFAL-MG) destinado aos alunos do primeiro ao sexto ano do curso de Medicina. O evento teve por objetivo empregar metodologias ativas no estudo da anatomia renal, utilizando-se da dissecação de rim suíno. Uma vez que esse é um método pedagógico que colabora para a construção do aprendizado, e o rim suíno, por sua vez, possui grande semelhança com o órgão humano. Além disso, o conhecimento da anatomia renal é fundamental para compreender a fisiopatologia de doenças nefrológicas. A atividade foi realizada no Laboratório de técnicas cirúrgicas da FAMED UNIFAL-MG. Participaram da atividade 50 estudantes do curso de medicina da UNIFAL-MG, sendo 25 participantes em cada turno. Foram utilizados kit de dissecação, luvas, rim suíno, tabuleiro, jaleco e o roteiro contendo passo a passo da dissecação. Desta maneira, a experiência do evento, para os extensionistas, foi de extrema importância para o desenvolvimento de habilidades comunicativas e aprendizagem a partir do ensinamento e trabalho em equipe. Já para os participantes, a atividade permitiu aprender e revisar a anatomia renal, além de possibilitar associação com a fisiologia para melhor entendimento das doenças nefrológicas.
