Statistical knowledge: perceptions of High School students in a public school in the city of Caxias, Maranhão

Resumo: | This research is the result of work developed with high school students, which aimed to assess students' perception of statistical knowledge, as well as discovering whether the activity contributed to learning these contents. The idea came about by detecting the lack of practices with this purpose. The instrument used to analyze the contributions of the activity, in identifying the perception and learning of Statistics, was a questionnaire and the information obtained was organized in graphs, so that a qualitative quantitative analysis of the information could be carried out, supported by content analysis. The referred activity managed to show that a portion of the researched public did not know Statistics and is unaware of its applicability. Another situation also identified is that students do not see Statistics, which is reduced to mathematical knowledge and which is associated with the most diverse areas of knowledge, in addition to representing the contribution of the activity, in terms of learning about statistical knowledge. Research can provide information that can be used by teaching professionals, and thus offer possible actions that can alleviate the present difficulties in learning Statistics. Thus, this work offers paths on how to carry out interventions that involve statistical knowledge in different areas of knowledge, because the Arco de Maguerez methodology is easily adapted to all fields of knowledge, which undoubtedly can significantly contribute to learning. |

La idea surgió al detectar la falta de prácticas con este propósito. El instrumento utilizado para analizar los aportes de la actividad, en la identificación de la percepción y el aprendizaje de la Estadística, fue un cuestionario y la información obtenida se organizó en gráficos, de manera que se pudiera realizar un análisis cualitativo cuantitativo de la información, apoyado en análisis de contenido. La referida actividad logró evidenciar que una parte del público investigado no conocía la Estadística y desconoce su aplicabilidad. Otra situación también identificada es que los estudiantes no ven la Estadística, que se reduce a conocimientos matemáticos y que se asocia a las más diversas áreas de conocimiento, además de representar el aporte de la actividad, en términos de aprendizaje sobre conocimientos estadísticos. La investigación puede aportar información que pueda ser utilizada por los profesionales de la enseñanza, y así ofrecer posibles acciones que puedan paliar las actuales dificultades en el aprendizaje de la Estadística. Así, este trabajo ofrece caminos sobre cómo realizar intervenciones que involucran conocimientos estadísticos en diferentes áreas del conocimiento, pues la metodología Arco de Maguerez se adapta fácilmente a todos los campos del conocimiento, lo que sin duda puede contribuir significativamente al aprendizaje.A presente pesquisa, é o resultado de um trabalho desenvolvido com alunos do 3° do Ensino Médio, que teve como objetivo o de avaliar a percepção dos educandos sobre conhecimentos estatísticos, assim como descobrir se a realização da atividade contribuiu para aprendizagem desses conteúdos. A ideia surgiu mediante a detecção da carência de práticas com esse propósito. O instrumento utilizado para analisar as contribuições da atividade, na identificação da percepção e aprendizagem de Estatística, foi um questionário e as informações obtidas foram organizadas em gráficos, para que se realizasse uma análise quanti qualitativa das informações, amparadas pela análise de conteúdo. A referida atividade, conseguiu evidenciar que uma parcela do público pesquisado, não conhecia a Estatística e desconhece a sua aplicabilidade. Outra situação também identificada, é que os alunos não veem a Estatística, reduzida apenas a conhecimentos matemáticos e que está associada, as mais diversas áreas do conhecimento, além de ser representativa a contribuição da atividade, quanto a aprendizagem sobre os conhecimentos estatísticos. A pesquisa pode proporcionar informações que podem ser utilizadas, por profissionais do ensino, e assim oferecer possíveis ações que possam atenuar as dificuldades presentes, quanto a aprendizagem de Estatística.
