Space-time analysis of land use and cover in the expansion of sugarcane agriculture in the municipality of Aldeias Altas, Maranhão, Brazil

Resumo: The present study aims to quantify, spatialize and analyze the use and occupation of land in the Municipality of Aldeias Altas, in the State of Maranhão, specifically in the years 2000, 2010 and 2021, in a research using the Evolutionary Landscape Analysis method. Images from the MapBiomas Project, collection 7.1, were used to analyze land cover and use, such as agricultural areas, natural forests, non-forest natural formations, bodies of water, non-vegetated areas and sugar cane. Secondary data made available by the Municipal Agricultural Survey (PAM) were also used, such as the variables production and cultivation of sugar cane. There was a consolidation of the productive modernization of land and changes in the landscapes derived from agriculture in the municipality of Aldeias Altas, in the last 21 years, with emphasis on the production of sugar cane. Furthermore, the agility and precision of geotechnologies in the automatic capture of data related to the earth's surface for the management, study and presentation of generated information has been proven, which can be of great benefit for rural development policies and growth of agribusiness in a sustainable way.

Se utilizaron imágenes del Proyecto MapBiomas, colección 7.1, para analizar la cobertura y uso del suelo, como áreas agrícolas, bosques naturales, formaciones naturales no forestales, cuerpos de agua, áreas sin vegetación y caña de azúcar. También se utilizaron datos secundarios puestos a disposición de la Encuesta Agropecuaria Municipal (PAM), como las variables producción y cultivo de caña de azúcar. Hubo una consolidación de la modernización productiva de la tierra y cambios en los paisajes derivados de la agricultura en el municipio de Aldeias Altas, en los últimos 21 años, con énfasis en la producción de caña de azúcar. Además, se comprobó la agilidad y precisión de las geotecnologías en la captura automática de datos relacionados con la superficie terrestre para la gestión, estudio y presentación de la información generada, lo que puede ser de gran utilidad para las políticas de desarrollo rural y el crecimiento de la agroindustria de manera sostenible.O presente estudo tem como objetivo quantificar, espacializar e analisar o uso e ocupação da terra no Município de Aldeias Altas, no Estado Maranhão, especificamente nos anos de 2000, 2010 e 2021, numa pesquisa utilizando o método de Análise Evolutiva da Paisagem. Foram utilizadas imagens do Projeto MapBiomas, coleção 7.1, para a análise da cobertura e uso da terra, tais como áreas de agricultura, Floresta natural, Formação natural não florestal, corpos d’águas, áreas não vegetadas e cana-de-açúcar. Também, foram utilizados dados secundários disponibilizados pela Pesquisa Agrícola Municipal (PAM), como as variáveis produção e cultivo da cana-de-açúcar. Verificou-se a consolidação da modernização produtiva da terra e as mudanças nas paisagens derivadas da agricultura no município de Aldeias Altas, nos últimos 21 anos, com destaque para a produção da cana-de-açúcar.
