Resumo: The present study aimed to identify the weaknesses and potentialities experienced by women, to perform a mammography exam, made available by the Unified Health System. This is a study with a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive approach, carried out with users of public services in a city in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul, from August to October 2020. From the results obtained, three thematic categories emerged, namely: the importance of early detection, difficulties in accessing the mammography and strategies to expand the use of mammography. It was noticed through this study that, despite the availability of the exam on the public network, women do not always access it. Geographic, social and economic factors emerged as justifications for not attending the public health service to carry out the exam to aid the diagnosis. Fragile situations, such as the delay in acquiring the result, appear as a factor that discourages its realization.

Fragile situations, such as the delay in acquiring the result, appear as a factor that discourages its realization.El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo identificar las debilidades y potencialidades que experimentan las mujeres, para realizar un examen mamográfico, proporcionado por el Sistema Único de Salud. Se trata de un estudio con enfoque cualitativo, exploratorio y descriptivo, realizado con usuarios de servicios públicos en una ciudad de la región central de Rio Grande do Sul, de agosto a octubre de 2020. De los resultados obtenidos surgieron tres categorías temáticas, a saber: la importancia de la detección temprana, las dificultades para acceder a la mamografía y estrategias para expandir el uso de la mamografía. A través de este estudio se advirtió que, a pesar de la disponibilidad del examen en la red pública, las mujeres no siempre acceden a él. Los factores geográficos, sociales y económicos surgieron como justificaciones para no acudir al servicio de salud pública para realizar el examen que ayude al diagnóstico. Situaciones frágiles, como la demora en adquirir el resultado, aparecen como un factor que desalienta su realización.O presente trabalho teve por objetivo identificar as fragilidades e potencialidades vivenciadas pelas mulheres, para realização de exame de mamografia, disponibilizado pelo Sistema Único de Saúde. Trata-se de estudo de abordagem qualitativa, exploratória e de caráter descritivo, realizado com usuárias dos serviços públicos de saúde, em um município da região central do Rio Grande do Sul, no período de agosto a outubro de 2020. A partir dos resultados obtidos, emergiram três categorias temáticas, sendo elas: a importância da detecção precoce, dificuldades de acesso ao exame da mamografia e estratégias para ampliar a utilização do mamógrafo. Percebeu-se por meio desse estudo que, apesar da disponibilização do exame na rede pública, as mulheres nem sempre acessam o mesmo. Fatores geográficos, sociais e econômicos surgiram como justificativas para o não comparecimento ao serviço de saúde pública para a efetivação do exame para auxílio ao diagnóstico.
