Digital tools for teaching Ecuadorian students’ oral skills in English: a systematic review

Resumo: This paper presents a systematic review based on studies undertaken by Intriago et al., (2016), Calero et al., (2018), Santamaria et al., (2018), Sevy-Biloon and Croman (2019), Yumi- Guacho et al., (2020) and Cabrera-Solano (2020 whose objective was to present empirical evidence on the use of digital tools for teaching speaking in English in the Ecuadorian context of education, considering the time frame of 2016 – 2021. Data collection was performed on national and international digital platforms for studies (Google Scholar, SCOPUS, Web of Knowledge, Latindex, ERIC). Initially, during the article selection phase, 23 studies were found, but, only six were used according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings showed six different tools (google apps, SoundCloud, video blogging, video chat, WhatsApp, and digital portfolio) that were used in the classroom and contributed to the development of students' speaking. The implication of this research shows the lack of studies that focus on the competence of speaking of basic education students and the lack of research focused on specific aspects of speaking, such as improving fluidity or pronunciation.

The implication of this research shows the lack of studies that focus on the competence of speaking of basic education students and the lack of research focused on specific aspects of speaking, such as improving fluidity or pronunciation.Este artículo presenta una revisión sistemática basada en estudios realizados por Intriago et al., (2016), Calero et al., (2018), Santamaria et al., (2018), Sevy-Biloon y Croman (2019), Yumi-Guacho et al., (2020) y Cabrera-Solano (2020) cuyo objetivo fue presentar evidencia empírica sobre el uso de herramientas digitales para la enseñanza de la producción oral en inglés en el contexto educativo ecuatoriano, considerando el marco temporal 2016 – 2021. La recopilación de datos se ejecutó en plataformas digitales nacionales e internacionales para estudios (Google Scholar, SCOPUS, Web of Knowledge, Latindex, ERIC). Inicialmente, durante la fase de selección de artículos se encontraron 23 estudios, sin embargo, solo se utilizaron seis según los criterios de inclusión y exclusión. Los resultados encontrados mostraron seis herramientas diferentes (google apps, soundcloud, video blogging, video chat, WhatsApp y portafolio digital) que se emplearon en el aula y contribuyeron al desarrollo de la producción oral de los estudiantes. Las implicaciones de esta investigación muestran la falta de estudios que se enfoquen en la competencia de producción oral de los estudiantes de educación básica, además de la falta de investigaciones enfocadas en aspectos específicos de la producción oral, como mejorar la fluidez o la pronunciación.Este trabalho apresenta uma revisão sistemática com base nos estudos empreendidos por Intriago et al., (2016), Calero et al., (2018), Santamaria et al., (2018), Sevy-Biloon e Chroman (2019), Yumi-Guacho et al., (2020) e Cabrera-Solano (2020 cujo objetivo foi apresentar evidências empíricas sobre a utilização das ferramentas digitais para o ensino da produção oral em língua inglesa no contexto equatoriano de ensino considerando o recorte temporal de 2016 – 2021. A coleta dos dados foi feita nas plataformas digitais nacionais e internacionais de estudos (Google Acadêmico, SCOPUS, Web of Knowledge, Latindex, ERIC). Inicialmente, durante a fase de seleção de artigos, foram encontrados 23 estudos, entretanto, somente seis foram usados segundo os critérios de inclusão e exclusão. Os resultados encontrados mostraram seis diferentes ferramentas (google apps, soundcloud, video blogging, video chat, whatsApp, e portafolio digital) que foram utilizadas em sala de aula e contribuíram no desenvolvimento da produção oral dos estudantes.
