Population adherence to the use of masks for the prevention and control of COVID-19: integrative literature review

Resumo: The objective was to analyze the evidence available in the literature on the adherence of the general population over 18 years of age to the use of masks for the prevention and control of COVID-19. This integrative review was registered in the Open Science Framework prior to carrying out the searches. The search was conducted on February 19, 2021, in the following databases: National Library of Medicine, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, Embase and Web of Science. A total of 17 studies were selected to integrate this review. Being 16 (94.2%) with a quantitative approach and one (5.8%) qualitative, mostly published in English in 16 different journals in the health area. The evidence available in the literature on the population's adherence to the use of masks for the prevention and control of COVID-19, showed a difference in the levels of compliance with specific preventive measures against COVID-19 related to variables such as the compulsory use of masks and , personal, environmental and cultural factors.

La búsqueda se realizó el 19 de febrero de 2021 en las siguientes bases de datos: Biblioteca Nacional de Medicina, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, Embase y Web of Science. Se seleccionó un total de 17 estudios para integrar esta revisión. Siendo 16 (94,2%) con enfoque cuantitativo y uno (5,8%) cualitativo, publicados en su mayoría en inglés en 16 revistas diferentes del área de la salud. La evidencia disponible en la literatura sobre la adherencia de la población al uso de mascarillas para la prevención y control del COVID-19, mostró una diferencia en los niveles de cumplimiento de medidas preventivas específicas frente al COVID-19 relacionadas con variables como el uso obligatorio de máscaras, factores personales, ambientales y culturales.Objetivou-se analisar as evidências disponíveis na literatura sobre a adesão da população geral acima de 18 anos quanto ao uso de máscaras para a prevenção e controle da COVID-19. Essa revisão integrativa foi registrada no Open Science Framework previamente à realização das buscas. A busca foi conduzida em 19 de fevereiro de 2021, nas seguintes bases de dados: National Library of Medicine, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde, Embase e Web of Science. Um total de 17 estudos foram selecionados para integrar esta revisão. Sendo 16 (94,2%) com abordagem quantitativa e um (5,8%) qualitativa, majoritariamente publicados na língua inglesa em 16 periódicos diferentes da área da saúde.
