Sustainable Construction: Addition of cement bags in production of ecological bricks

Resumo: The construction industry has a significant impact on the environment, and improper disposal of its waste creates problems for cities. Proper management of this waste is crucial to promoting sustainable construction practices. Recycling waste materials, such as paper from cement sacks, stands out as a strategic opportunity in the construction industry. Ecological bricks can reuse waste by incorporating Kraft paper from cement bags. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of ecological bricks containing Kraft paper compared to ecological bricks without this addition. The production of both types of ecological bricks (18 samples) was started, one standard (9 samples) and the other with Kraft paper waste (9 samples). The comparative analysis of the properties of the ecological bricks suggests that those with added Kraft paper performed better, providing lighter and more sustainable alternatives to construction waste, and showing improvements in aesthetic properties such as color and texture, as well as density and mass.

Se inició la producción de ambos tipos de ladrillos ecológicos (18 muestras), uno estándar (9 muestras) y otro con residuos de papel Kraft (9 muestras). El análisis comparativo de las propiedades de los ladrillos ecológicos sugiere que aquellos con adición de papel Kraft se comportaron mejor, proporcionando alternativas más ligeras y sostenibles a los residuos de la construcción, mostrando mejoras en las propiedades estéticas como el color y la textura, así como en la densidad y la masa.A indústria da construção civil tem um impacto significativo no meio ambiente, e o descarte inadequado de seus resíduos gera problemas para as cidades. A reciclagem de materiais, como o papel proveniente de sacos de cimento, destaca-se como uma oportunidade estratégica na indústria da construção. Os tijolos ecológicos têm a capacidade de reutilizar resíduos, incorporando papel Kraft de sacos de cimento. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o desempenho de tijolos ecológicos contendo papel Kraft em comparação com tijolos ecológicos sem essa adição. A produção de ambos os tipos de tijolos ecológicos (18 amostras) foi iniciada, sendo um padrão (9 amostras) e o outro com resíduo de papel Kraft (9 amostras).
