Network for women who suffered violence: experiences from a city in the south of Brazil

Objective: to analyze the experience of the intersectoral network for women who suffered violence in the city of Curitiba, Brazil. Methods: qualitative study, consisting of eight in-depth interviews with current and former coordinators involved in the creation of the network, 55 meetings’ minutes and three services’ protocols. The interviews and the minutes were analyzed using the Bardins’ content analysis technique. Results: The perspective of integral attention guided the Intersectoral Network actions. The articulated strategy of different entities provided a better intervention on the issue, considering that violence against women is a complex phenomenon that requires specific practices for different instances. Final considerations: Among the challenges to promote the intersectoriality of the services, it was possible to identify  the hierarchization and verticalization of services and the still ongoing reproduction of gender stereotypes. Nevertheless, the intersectorial work meant a new approach to the cooperative networks. It shed light into the complex problem of violence against women and by acting jointly, the services provided a more appropriate assistance for women who suffered violence.
