Evaluation of the economic sustainability of milk producing properties in Vale do Taquari/RS through indicators

Resumo: Introduction: Dairy production, present in all regions, is an important activity to contribute with the food security, job and income generation and the permanence of the population in the countryside. However, its development occurs in a heterogeneous way and often generates environmental, economic and social problems in the area where it is inserted. For this reason, society in general has been pressuring the sector to find more intensive and sustainable processes. Objective: This work seeks to evaluate the economic sustainability of dairy properties in Vale do Taquari - RS, essentially familiar, through indicators, seeking to understand which economic aspects interfere in the sustainability of rural enterprises. Methods: The present study is classified as exploratory and descriptive, based on a quantitative approach, having as technical procedures the adoption of field research, conducted in 36 properties. To assess the economic sustainability of the properties, the Indicator System for the Evaluation of the Sustainability of Dairy Properties was used. Results: The results indicate that most of the properties perform well to achieve economic sustainability conditions, although there are differences between them. The factors that contributed most to this result are associated with technological evolution, enterprise management, diversification of income sources and access to basic services. Conclusion: As negative aspects for the economic sustainability, are the high degree of indebtedness of the properties, the absence of family succession and the reduced wealth evolution in the last years.

Sin embargo, su desarrollo ocurre de forma heterogénea y muchas veces genera problemas ambientales, económicos y sociales en el medio en el que se inserta. Por ello, la sociedad en general ha presionado al sector para buscar procesos más intensivos y sostenibles. Objetivo: Evaluar la sostenibilidad económica de propiedades productoras de leche en Vale do Taquari - RS, esencialmente de propiedad familiar, a través de indicadores, buscando comprender qué aspectos económicos interfieren en la sostenibilidad de las empresas rurales. Metodología: El estudio se clasifica como exploratorio y descriptivo, desde un enfoque cuantitativo, teniendo como procedimientos técnicos, la adopción de investigaciones de campo realizadas en 36 propiedades. Para evaluar la sostenibilidad económica de las propiedades se utilizó el Sistema de Indicadores para la Evaluación de la Sostenibilidad de Propiedades Productoras de Leche. Resultados: Los resultados indican que la mayoría de las propiedades tienen un buen desempeño para lograr condiciones de sostenibilidad económica, aunque existen diferencias entre ellas. Los factores que más contribuyeron a este resultado están asociados a la evolución tecnológica, la gestión empresarial, la diversificación de las fuentes de ingresos y el acceso a los servicios básicos. Conclusión: Como aspectos negativos para la sostenibilidad económica del negocio se encuentran el alto nivel de endeudamiento de las propiedades, la ausencia de sucesión familiar y la reducida evolución patrimonial en los últimos años.Introdução: A produção leiteira, presente em todas as regiões, é uma atividade importante para contribuir com a segurança alimentar, geração de emprego e renda e permanência da população no campo. Por esta razão, a sociedade de maneira em geral tem pressionado o setor a encontrar processos mais intensivos e sustentáveis. Objetivo: Avaliar a sustentabilidade econômica de propriedades produtoras de leite do Vale do Taquari - RS, essencialmente familiares, por meio de indicadores, buscando compreender quais aspectos econômicos interferem na sustentabilidade dos empreendimentos rurais. Metodologia: O estudo classifica-se como exploratório e descritivo, a partir de abordagem quantitativa, tendo como procedimentos técnicos, a adoção de pesquisa de campo realizada em 36 propriedades. Para avaliar a sustentabilidade econômica das propriedades, fez-se uso do Sistema de Indicadores para Avaliação da Sustentabilidade de Propriedades Produtoras de Leite. Resultados: Os resultados indicam que a maioria das propriedades apresenta um bom desempenho para o alcance de condições de sustentabilidade econômica, embora existam diferenças entre elas. Os fatores que mais contribuíram para este resultado estão associados a evolução tecnológica, gestão do empreendimento, diversificação das fontes da renda e ao acesso a serviços básicos.
