Zinc supplementation in pregnancy and its relation to chronic non-communicable diseases

Resumo: | Objective: Evaluate zinc supplementation during pregnancy as a way to prevent the onset of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the adult phase of offspring. Method: This research was a literature review with a quantitative approach, Medline, Scielo, PubMed and Google Scholar. The research was carried out in Portuguese, in the period between 2000 and 2018, using the following descriptors: CNCD, pregnancy, zinc, fetal programming, supplementation during pregnancy. Results: Zinc supplementation during pregnancy is beneficial for both the mother and the fetus, considering that this nutrient is involved in important biochemical, immunological, clinical and metabolic processes. Conclusion: From the results of the research, it was possible to conclude that, indirectly, zinc supplementation during pregnancy can prevent the onset of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the adult phase of the offspring. |

Resultados: La suplementación con zinc durante el embarazo es beneficiosa tanto para la madre como para el feto, considerando que este nutriente está involucrado en importantes procesos bioquímicos, inmunológicos, clínicos y metabólicos. Conclusión: A partir de los resultados de la investigación, fue posible concluir que, de manera indirecta, la suplementación con zinc durante el embarazo puede prevenir la aparición de enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles (ENT) en la fase adulta de la descendencia.Objetivo: Avaliar a suplementação de zinco na gestação como forma de prevenir o aparecimento de doenças crônicas não transmissíveis (DCNT) na fase adulta dos descendentes. Método: A presente pesquisa foi uma revisão bibliográfica com abordagem quantitativa, Medline, Scielo, PubMed e Google Acadêmico. A pesquisa foi realizada em português, no período compreendido entre os anos de 2000 a 2018, utilizando-se os seguintes descritores: DCNT, gestação, zinco, programação fetal, suplementação na gestação. Resultados: A suplementação de zinco durante a gestação é benéfica tanto para mãe, quanto para o feto, considerando que esse nutriente está envolvido em importantes processos bioquímicos, imunológicos, clínicos e metabólicos.
