The role of nurses in palliative care for children with cancer: an integrative literature review

Resumo: Cancer is a pathology that challenges most individuals, especially children, taking into account worldwide, because it is a disease that greatly affects the lives of this group. This study aims to understand the role of nurses in palliative care for children with cancer. The present study is an integrative review with an exploratory, descriptive and qualitative approach. The collection of information was carried out through the Virtual Health Library where the database of Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS) was selected and to carry out the collection of scientific articles we used the keywords: Nursing, Palliative Care and Cancer. It can be highlighted how the results of physical and psychological changes are evidenced in patients with Ca, pain, suffering, anguish and guilt are characterized as the feelings of family members and the nurse acts through the provision of palliative care and psychological assistance to both the patient regarding their family members. The professional nurse is in charge of performing the necessary care for individuals who need palliative care in the hospital environment or in their homes. It is concluded that the care provided by nurses is essential for safe and effective care, since pain and suffering are common in cancer patients and their families.

Este estudio tiene como objetivo comprender el papel de los enfermeros en los cuidados paliativos de niños con cáncer. El presente estudio es una revisión integradora con enfoque exploratorio, descriptivo y cualitativo. La recolección de información se realizó a través de la Biblioteca Virtual en Salud donde se seleccionó la base de datos de Literatura Latinoamericana y del Caribe en Ciencias de la Salud (LILACS) y para realizar la recolección de artículos científicos se utilizaron las palabras claves: Enfermería, Cuidados Paliativos y Cáncer. Se puede destacar cómo se evidencian los resultados de cambios físicos y psíquicos en pacientes con Ca, se caracteriza el dolor, sufrimiento, angustia y culpa como los sentimientos de los familiares y la enfermera actúa a través de la prestación de cuidados paliativos y asistencia psicológica tanto a los paciente con respecto a sus familiares. El profesional de enfermería es el encargado de realizar los cuidados necesarios a las personas que necesitan cuidados paliativos en el ámbito hospitalario o en sus domicilios. Se concluye que el cuidado que brindan los enfermeros es fundamental para una atención segura y eficaz, ya que el dolor y el sufrimiento son comunes en los pacientes oncológicos y sus familiares.O câncer é uma patologia que desafia grande parte dos indivíduos principalmente as crianças levando em consideração a nível mundial em virtude de ser uma doença que afeta grandemente a vida desse grupo. Este estudo tem por objetivo conhecer o papel do enfermeiro nos cuidados paliativos a criança com câncer. O presente estudo trata-se de uma revisão integrativa com abordagem exploratória, descritiva e qualitativa. A coleta das informações foi realizada por meio da Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde onde selecionou-se a base de dados da Literatura Latino Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS) e para realizar a coleta dos artigos científicos utilizamos as palavras-chave: Enfermagem, Cuidados Paliativos e Câncer. Pode-se destacar como os resultados alterações físicas e psicológicas são evidenciadas em portadores de CA, já a dor, sofrimento, angústia e culpa são caracterizadas como os sentimentos dos familiares e o enfermeiro atua mediante a realização dos cuidados paliativos e auxílio psicológico tanto ao doente quanto aos seus familiares. O profissional enfermeiro está encarregado para realizar os cuidados necessários aos indivíduos que necessitam de cuidados paliativos no ambiente hospitalar ou em suas residências.
