Resumo: The irresponsible activity of disposing of solid waste has caused significant impacts on the environment, such as groundwater pollution and difficulty in sewage treatment. The present work aimed to carry out a survey of solid waste impacts in the Tijuca National Park (PNT), specifically in the Student Trail, located in the Forest Sector. Solid waste data were collected in six visits to the Student Trail during 2017, 2018 and early 2019, with the aid of a camera and field record. The waste identified on this Trail was organized according to the raw material, such as aluminum, plastic, glass, fabric. This division allowed the separation of materials according to their respective decomposition time in the soil. Throughout the length of the Trail it was possible to notice a significant amount of solid waste discharged inappropriately, causing significant damage to the soil, by changing the pH, reducing permeability in areas near the waste, as well as the health risk of the local fauna. The presence of aluminum, glass, plastic and batteries, wastes that need hundreds of years to decompose in the environment corroborate this impact. Thus, the data from this study can contribute to the PNT Management Plan and to problematizing the conscious use of the park.

Thus, the data from this study can contribute to the PNT Management Plan and to problematizing the conscious use of the park. Research, Society and Development2019-08-24info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/141210.33448/rsd-v8i10.1412Research, Society and Development; Vol. 8 No. 10; e428101412Research, Society and Development; Vol. 8 Núm. 10; e428101412Research, Society and Development; v. 8 n. 10; e4281014122525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/1412/5003Copyright (c) 2019 Stefano Gomes, Marcelo Rochainfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessGomes, Stefano Bruno VieiraRocha, Marcelo Borges2020-07-12T12:26:21Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/1412Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:26:27.391152Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
