Resumo: Mining plays an important role in the economy of a country, and is fundamental for obtaining the necessary raw materials for people's daily lives. However, this activity has negative impacts on the environment, such as the landscape degradation, deforestation, water contamination and air pollution. In this way, this research had the objective of analyzing the population perception of Morro do Pilar (MG), about the socio-environmental and economic impacts that can be triggered by the implantation of a mining enterprise in the city from a questionnaire applied to 340 residents. Thus, concerning to the positive impacts, the participants of this research highlighted the growth of the municipality and the generation of employment for the population. Considering the negative socio-environmental and economic impacts were mentioned pollution, environmental destruction, increase of people who are not from the region and violence in the city. In this sense, the importance of public participation in public hearings is emphasized, since it is through this action that information is obtained regarding the mining activity development and the measures that will be adopted to minimize and/or eliminate the negative effects of this upon the environment and society.

De esta forma esta investigación tuvo como objetivo analizar la percepción de la población de Morro do Pilar (MG), acerca de los impactos socioambientales y económicos que pueden ser desencadenados por la implantación de un emprendimiento minero en el municipio a partir de cuestionario aplicado a 340 habitantes. Así, con relación a los impactos positivos, los participantes de esa encuesta destacaron el crecimiento del municipio y la generación de empleo para la población. Considerando los impactos negativos socioambientales y económicos fueron citados la contaminación, la destrucción ambiental, el aumento de personas que no son de la región y de la violencia en la ciudad. En este sentido, se resalta la importancia de la participación de la población en las audiencias públicas, ya que es a través de ésta que son obtenidas informaciones referentes al desarrollo de la actividad minera y las medidas que serán adoptadas para minimizar y / o eliminar los efectos negativos de ésta sobre el medio ambiente y la sociedad.A mineração possui um importante papel na economia de um país, sendo fundamental para a obtenção de matérias-primas necessárias ao cotidiano das pessoas, entretanto, esta atividade desencadeia impactos negativos ao meio ambiente, relacionados, por exemplo, à degradação da paisagem, desmatamento, contaminação da água e poluição do ar. Desta forma essa pesquisa teve como objetivo analisar a percepção da população de Morro do Pilar (MG), acerca dos impactos socioambientais e econômicos que podem ser desencadeados pela implantação de um empreendimento minerário no município a partir de questionário aplicado a 340 moradores. Assim, com relação aos impactos positivos, os participantes dessa pesquisa destacaram o crescimento do município e a geração de emprego para a população. Considerando os impactos negativos socioambientais e econômicos foram citados a poluição, a destruição ambiental, o aumento de pessoas que não são da região e da violência na cidade.
