Resumo: Mining activity is responsible for the raw materials supply that allows the maintenance of life, on the other hand, this activity triggers several impacts. Thus, this research aimed to analyze the residents’ perception of Barão de Cocais, MG, about the creation of the Serra do Gandarela National Park (PARNA)and about the mining activity impacts on the environment and society in general. The obtained data allowed to verify that the residents of the municipality in question was not aware of the creation of this PARNA. Beside this it was possible to notice a greater concern about the negative environmental impacts than the positive socioeconomic impacts, caused by the mining.

Así, esta investigación objetivó analizar la percepción de los habitantes de Barón de Cocais, MG, acerca de la creación del Parque Nacional (PARNA) de la Serra do Gandarela y de los impactos de la actividad minera para el medio ambiente y para la sociedad en general. Los datos obtenidos permitieron verificar que los residentes del municipio en cuestión no tenían conocimiento sobre la creación de ese PARNA. Además, fue posible notar una preocupación mayor en torno a los impactos ambientales negativos que con relación a los impactos socioeconómicos positivos, causados por la minería.A atividade minerária é responsável pelo fornecimento de matérias-primas que permitem a manutenção da vida, por outro lado, esta atividade desencadeia diversos impactos. Assim, esta pesquisa objetivou analisar a percepção dos moradores de Barão de Cocais, MG, acerca da criação do Parque Nacional (PARNA) da Serra do Gandarela e dos impactos da atividade minerária para o meio ambiente e para a sociedade em geral. Os dados obtidos permitiram verificar que os moradores do município em questão não tinham conhecimento sobre a criação desse PARNA.
