Root redneck music as a tool for raising awareness and environmental education

Resumo: The music of viola caipira became a means of cultural recording, transmitting moral and ethical teachings to listeners and can be used as a tool for educational practices. Music promotes a pleasant assimilation in the learning process, so Environmental Education, due to its interdisciplinary character, can use country music to form responsible citizens from a socio-environmental point of view. The present work aimed to sensitize students to environmental issues through lyrics and country music at the Quim Machado Municipal School in Itumbiara, Goiás, Brazil. Sixty-seven students were selected, from the 6th to the 9th grade, who were encouraged to interact with moda de viola through the production of country music lyrics with the environmental theme. Most of the compositions were made in duos or trios, resulting in 27 parodies. From the awareness of environmental issues through the viola caipira, the students were able to produce song lyrics poetically portraying the environmental disturbances observed in their surroundings. Concern about water resources and deforestation were the most mentioned subjects in the songs, followed by verses referring to appreciation and respect for nature. The production of the songs allowed a playful activity associating the knowledge of the Portuguese Language and Sciences with music, art, culture and environment, validating this experience as a productive tool for Environmental Education.

La música promueve una asimilación agradable en el proceso de aprendizaje, por lo que la Educación Ambiental, por su carácter interdisciplinario, puede utilizar la música campesina para formar ciudadanos responsables desde el punto de vista socioambiental. El presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo sensibilizar a los estudiantes sobre los problemas ambientales a través de letras y música country en la Escuela Municipal Quim Machado en Itumbiara, Goiás, Brasil. Se seleccionaron 67 alumnos, de 6° a 9° grado, a quienes se les incentivó a interactuar con la moda de viola a través de la producción de letras de música campesina con la temática ambiental. La mayoría de las composiciones fueron realizadas en dúos o tríos, dando como resultado 27 parodias. A partir de la concientización sobre los problemas ambientales a través de la viola caipira, los estudiantes lograron producir letras de canciones que retratan poéticamente las perturbaciones ambientales observadas en su entorno. La preocupación por los recursos hídricos y la deforestación fueron los temas más mencionados en las canciones, seguidos de versos referentes al aprecio y respeto por la naturaleza. La producción de las canciones permitió una actividad lúdica asociando el conocimiento de la Lengua Portuguesa y las Ciencias con la música, el arte, la cultura y el medio ambiente, validando esta experiencia como herramienta productiva para la Educación Ambiental.A moda de viola caipira tornou-se um meio de registro cultural transmitindo aos ouvintes ensinamentos morais e éticos e pode ser usada como ferramenta para práticas educacionais. A música promove uma assimilação prazerosa no processo de aprendizagem, assim, a Educação Ambiental pelo seu caráter interdisciplinar pode utilizar a música sertaneja raiz para formar cidadão responsáveis do ponto de vista socioambiental. O presente trabalho objetivou sensibilizar alunos quanto às questões ambientais através das letras e música sertaneja raiz na Escola Municipal Quim Machado em Itumbiara, Goiás, Brasil. Foram selecionados 67 alunos, do 6º ao 9º ano os quais foram incentivados a interagir com a moda de viola por meia da produção de letras de músicas caipira com a temática ambiental.
