Summary: The frailty syndrome comprises a multifactorial cycle resulting from reduced energy reserves and increased vulnerability to stressors with consequent association of negative health conditions in the elderly. The objective was to systematize the knowledge produced about the influence of physical exercise on the criteria of the frailty syndrome, especially on the grip strength of elderly classified as frail. The search occurred on December 10, 2020, using the DeCS “Aged and Frailty and Exercise and Muscle Strength Dynamometer”, in the databases Science Direct®, MEDLINE® PubMed®, resulting in ten articles. Exercise versus grip strength was associated with active physical performance, lower risk of fracture from falls, low to medium intensity exercise program, muscle strengthening and endurance exercises, better quality of life index, regression of frailty, unfavorable nutritional status, and preservation of cognitive function. The combination of different exercise modalities, together with nutritional assessment, is a promising and effective method for the elderly to prevent frailty.

Research, Society and Development2021-10-10info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/2098210.33448/rsd-v10i13.20982Research, Society and Development; Vol. 10 No. 13; e204101320982Research, Society and Development; Vol. 10 Núm. 13; e204101320982Research, Society and Development; v. 10 n. 13; e2041013209822525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/20982/18833Copyright (c) 2021 Ernestina Maria da Silva Neta; Roselma Lucchese; Jordana Alves Aguiar; Graciele Cristina Silva; Moisés Fernandes Lemos; Ivânia Verahttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessSilva Neta, Ernestina Maria da Lucchese, Roselma Aguiar, Jordana AlvesSilva, Graciele Cristina Lemos, Moisés FernandesVera, Ivânia2021-11-21T18:26:28Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/20982Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:40:29.574130Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
