Adolescence: challenges between parents and children in sex education

The development of sexuality is an important aspect of human development and the achievement of sexual health. Adolescence is a crucial period because adult health is closely linked to experiences during adolescence. this study had as objective to identify the challenges faced by parents and children facing sex education.  This research has been classified as qualitative explanatory nature, non-probabilistic sampling, conducted through a structured questionnaire in open questions. The research was conducted in a public school, in the city of Caxias-MA, where 15 students of both genders, from the 9th grade of elementary school, and later their parents or guardians participated. Based on the data analysis, 46, 02% of parents interviewed reported that the biggest challenge would be shame, and 19, 08% reported lack of knowledge, while the other 34% were among several feelings such as prejudice, shyness and others. It was evidenced in the present study that there is a great difficulty to approach this subject within the family without feelings of shame or impotence. Faced with this reality, there is a need for multiple help among family, health professionals and educators in an attempt to extend this approach to adolescents.
