Analysis integrated morphometric and occupation in small drainage basin: Case study of the Santa Maria stream, Conceição de Ipanema-MG

Resumo: The integrated analysis of drainage basin, is an important and indispensable method of characterizing the hydrological behavior of a given territory. Those analyses with emphasis on morphometric parameters and data collected from the assessment of land use and occupation supports management and decision-making focused on the conservation of these environments. In this sense, the work aimed to characterize the drainage basin of Santa Maria stream, Conceição de Ipanema, MG. The study addresses the implementation of techniques for morphometric analysis with a view to determining the physical characteristics of the basin using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The methodology relied on the use of Satellite Images, Topographic Charts, ArcGis Software and the performance of varied calculations of morphometric indices. The results showed that the study universe is a 4th order basin, with a tendency to a more elongated shape, medium drainage capacity, expressive permeability and low level of flood prone. The characteristics of land use and cover show that 65.23% of its extension refers to pasture areas, 33.25% correspond to native vegetation and only 1.52% are places that present their exposed soil. Consequently, there is a urgent need to act on vegetation restoration in riparian zones in order to maintain the quality and quantity of water in the region, as well as the preservation of native species and the proper management of land use and occupation.

En este sentido, el trabajo tenía como objetivo caracterizar la cuenca del arroyo de Santa María, Conceição de Ipanema, MG. El estudio aborda la aplicación de técnicas de análisis morfométrico con miras a determinar las características físicas de la cuenca mediante sistemas de información geográfica (SIG). La metodología se basaba en el uso de imágenes de satélite, cartas topográficas, el software ArcGis y varios cálculos de índices morfométricos. Los resultados mostraron que el universo de estudio es una cuenca de 4º orden, con tendencia a un formato más largo, capacidad de drenaje media, permeabilidad expresiva y bajo nivel de propensión a las inundaciones. Las características del uso y cobertura del suelo muestran que el 65,23% de su extensión se refiere a zonas de pastos, el 33,25% corresponde a vegetación autóctona y sólo el 1,52% son lugares que tienen su suelo expuesto. Se llegó a la conclusión de que existe una evidente necesidad de recomposición vegetal de las zonas ribereñas para mantener la calidad y cantidad de agua en la región, así como la preservación de las especies nativas y la gestión adecuada del uso y la ocupación del suelo.A análise integrada de bacias hidrográficas, com ênfase nos parâmetros morfométricos e nos dados levantados com a avaliação do uso e ocupação do solo consiste em um importante e indispensável método de caracterização do comportamento hidrológico de um dado território, que subsidia a gestão e a tomada de decisões voltadas para a conservação desses ambientes. Neste sentido, o trabalho teve por objetivo caracterizar a bacia hidrográfica do córrego Santa Maria, Conceição de Ipanema, MG. O estudo aborda a implantação de técnicas para análises morfométricas com vistas na determinação das características físicas da bacia por meio de Sistemas de Informações Geográficas (SIG). A metodologia contou com o uso de Imagens de Satélite, Cartas Topográficas, Software ArcGis e com a realização de cálculos variados de índices de morfometria. Os resultados demonstraram que o universo de estudo trata-se de uma bacia de 4ª ordem, com tendência a um formato mais alongado, média capacidade de drenagem, expressiva permeabilidade e baixo nível de propensão a cheias. Já as características do uso e cobertura do solo evidenciam que 65,23% da sua extensão referem-se a áreas de pastagem, 33,25% correspondem à vegetação nativa e apenas 1,52% são locais que apresentam seu solo exposto.
