Profile of Inflammatory Bowel Disease at reference service in gastropediatrics in Brazil Northeast

Resumo: | Objective: To report the profile of patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease followed up at a pediatric gastroenterology service in Brazil Northeast. Methodology: Series of cases through the active search of medical records from April to November 2020, with inclusion criteria the regular follow-up at the Gastropediatrics service and non-inclusion criteria the incomplete medical records (without clinical, laboratory, endoscopic and/or histopathological criteria of Inflammatory Bowel Disease), with a final sample of 22 participants. Results: Most were male (63.6%), had Ulcerative Colitis (59.1%) and came from the capital (63.6%). The main symptoms were: diarrhea with blood (63.6%), abdominal pain (27.3%) and diarrhea without blood (9%). Fecal Calprotectin was elevated (88.9%) and anemia was present (77.3%). Most were eutrophic (59.1%). Corticosteroids (72.7%) and Mesalazine (27.3%) were used in the remission phase, while Azathioprine (18.2%) and immunobiologicals (36.6%) in the follow-up. Conclusion: More studies on this topic are still expected, as well as trained professionals and effective health services are needed to receive precociously and to forward in long-term these patients to improve their quality of life and impact positively of the disease’s evolution. |

Metodología: Serie de casos mediante la búsqueda activa de cuadros clínicos de abril a noviembre de 2020, con el criterio de inclusión lo seguimiento regular en el servicio de Gastropediatría y com criterio de no inclusión cuadros clínicos incompletos (sin criterios clínicos, de laboratorio, endoscópicos y/o histopatológicos de Enfermedad Inflamatoria Intestinal), con una muestra final de 22 participantes. Resultados: La mayoría eran del sexo masculino (63,6%), tenían colitis ulcerosa (59,1%) y procedían de la capital (63,6%). Los principales síntomas fueron: diarrea con sangre (63,6%), dolor abdominal (27,3%) y diarrea sin sangre (9%). La Calprotectina Fecal estaba elevada (88,9%) y había anemia (77,3%). La mayoría eran eutróficos (59,1%). En la fase de remisión, se utilizaron Corticoides (72,7%) y Mesalazina (27,3%), mientras Azatioprina (18,2%) e Inmunobiológicos (36,6%) en el seguimiento. Conclusión: Aún se espera más trabajo en este tema, así como profesionales capacitados y servicios de salud efectivos para acoger precozmente y reenviar a largo plazo a estos pacientes para mejorar su calidad de vida e impactar positivamente en la evolución de la enfermedad.Objetivo: Identificar o perfil de pacientes com Doença Inflamatória Intestinal acompanhados em serviço de Gastropediatria do Nordeste Brasileiro. Metodologia: Série de casos através da busca ativa de prontuários de abril a novembro de 2020, tendo como critério de inclusão o acompanhamento regular no serviço de Gastropediatria e de não inclusão prontuários incompletos (sem critérios clínicos, laboratoriais, endoscópicos e/ou histopatológicos de Doença Inflamatória Intestinal), com uma amostra final de 22 participantes. Resultados: A maioria era do sexo masculino (63,6%), portadora de Retocolite Ulcerativa (59,1%) e procedente da capital (63,6%). Os sintomas principais foram: diarreia com sangue (63,6%), dor abdominal (27,3%) e diarreia sem sangue (9%). Calprotectina Fecal estava elevada (88,9%) e anemia presente (77,3%). A maioria encontrava-se eutrófica (59,1%). Foram utilizados corticoide (72,7%) e Mesalazina (27,3%) na fase de remissão, enquanto Azatioprina (18,2%) e imunobiológicos (36,6%) no seguimento.
