Resumo: Objective: To find out how nursing care is developed for children and adolescents with special health needs hospitalized in a pediatric inpatient unit. Methodology: Qualitative, descriptive and exploratory research carried out in a pediatric inpatient unit with nine nursing professionals. Data collection took place through semi-structured interviews with audio-recorded statements and after the double transcription, the statements were subjected to thematic content analysis. Results: Nursing professionals develop care based on scientific knowledge and through play. The professionals have the support of the family, and use empathy, communication and bonding as promoting sources for this care. Final Considerations: Nursing care is based on scientific evidence and focused on family involvement as co-participant. These principles are essential for nursing care and assistance to children and adolescents with special hospitalized needs.

Metodología: Investigación cualitativa, descriptiva y exploratoria en una unidad de hospitalización pediátrica com nueve profesionales de enfermaría. La recolección de datos se realizó a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas con declaraciones grabadas en audio y luego de la double transcripción, las declaraciones fueron sometidas a análisis de contenido temático. Resultados: Los profesionales de enfermaría desarrollan el cuidado a partir del conocimiento cientifico y del juego. Los profesionales cuentan con el apoyo de la familia y utilizan la empatía, la comunicación y el vínculo como fuentes impulsoras de este cuidado. Consideraciones Finales: El cuidado de enfermaría se basa em la evidencia científica y se centra el la participacíon familiar como copartícipe. Estos principios son fundamentales para el cuidado y cuidado de enfermaría de niños y adolescentes hospitalizados con necesidades especiales.Objetivo: Conhecer como é desenvolvido o cuidado de enfermagem às crianças e adolescentes com necessidades especiais de saúde hospitalizados em unidade de internação pediátrica. Metodologia: Pesquisa qualitativa, descritiva e exploratória realizada em unidade de internação pediátrica com nove profissionais de enfermagem. A coleta de dados ocorreu por meio de entrevista semiestruturada audiogravada e, após, a dupla transcrição, as enunciações foram submetidas à análise de conteúdo temática. Resultados: As profissionais de enfermagem desenvolvem os cuidados com base nos saberes científicos e por meio do lúdico. As participantes deste estudo destacaram que a equipe de enfermagem tem o apoio da família, e utilizam a empatia, a comunicação e o vínculo como fontes promotoras para cuidado. Considerações finais: Os cuidados de enfermagem são embasados em evidências científicas e centrados no envolvimento familiar como copartícipe.
