The importance of the school psychologist: a look at the “13 reasons why” series

Resumo: | This study aims to seek an understanding of the role and importance of the school psychologist in the face of the demands of adolescence, in addition to discussing the main challenges faced by these professionals in this area, based on the first season of the “13 Reasons Why” series. In this way, it seeks to sensitize people about the need to have a more sensitive and welcoming look, aiming to promote quality mental health in the school environment. The series shows the context that many teenagers experience in their schools, from problems with drug use to sexual abuse, aggression and lack of empathic adults seeking to understand and help them. The literature review was used as a research methodology, making it possible to understand the importance of the school psychologist, acting with qualified and welcoming listening to adolescents in their demands. Bearing in mind that they are in a phase permeated by doubts, in which the transformations experienced cause restlessness and strangeness in relation to themselves, they need a qualified help, which is given by the professional of Psychology. It is in this sense that schools become important places for discussing topics considered taboo, such as suicide, in view of the large number of adolescents who attend it. Challenges that are still often encountered by psychologists are the lack of open spaces for action in the school environment and questions about their functions, requiring greater visibility for this area of expertise. It was found in this work that the series can make the adolescents identify with the topics covered and then start talking more about their feelings, especially in the school environment, where they spend most of their time, being able to exchange experiences with others. But, for this to happen, it is necessary that the school recognizes such importance and starts to insert the Psychology professional in its staff. |

De esta forma, se busca sensibilizar a las personas sobre la necesidad de tener una mirada más sensible y acogedora, con el objetivo de promover una salud mental de calidad en el entorno escolar. La serie muestra el contexto que viven muchos adolescentes en sus escuelas, desde problemas con el uso de drogas hasta abuso sexual, agresión y falta de adultos empáticos que busquen comprenderlos y ayudarlos. La revisión de la literatura se utilizó como metodología de investigación, permitiendo comprender la importancia del psicólogo escolar, actuando con una escucha calificada y acogedora de los adolescentes en sus demandas. Teniendo en cuenta que se encuentran en una fase impregnada de dudas, en la que las transformaciones vividas provocan inquietudes y extrañezas en su relación con ellos mismos, necesitan una ayuda cualificada, que es brindada por el profesional de Psicología. Es en este sentido que las escuelas se convierten en lugares importantes para la discusión de temas considerados tabú, como el suicidio, ante la gran cantidad de adolescentes que asisten a ella. Los desafíos que aún enfrentan los psicólogos son la falta de espacios abiertos en el entorno escolar y las preguntas sobre sus funciones, lo que requiere una mayor visibilidad para esta área de especialización. Se encontró en este trabajo que la serie puede hacer que los adolescentes se identifiquen con los temas tratados y luego comiencen a hablar más sobre sus sentimientos, especialmente en el ámbito escolar, donde pasan la mayor parte de su tiempo, pudiendo intercambiar experiencias. con otros. Pero, para que esto suceda, es necesario que la escuela reconozca tal importancia y comience a insertar al profesional de Psicología en su plantilla.Este estudo tem como objetivo buscar uma compreensão do papel e da importância do psicólogo escolar frente às demandas da adolescência, além de discutir os principais desafios enfrentados por esses profissionais nessa área, baseando-se na primeira temporada da série “13 Reasons Why”. Desta forma, procura-se sensibilizar as pessoas sobre a necessidade de se ter um olhar mais sensível e acolhedor, visando a promoção de saúde mental de qualidade no âmbito escolar. A série mostra o contexto que muitos adolescentes vivenciam em suas escolas, desde problemas com uso de drogas até abuso sexual, agressividade e falta de adultos empáticos buscando entendê-los e ajudá-los. Utilizou-se como metodologia de pesquisa a revisão de literatura, sendo possível compreender a importância do psicólogo escolar, atuando com uma escuta qualificada e acolhedora aos adolescentes em suas demandas. Tendo em vista que estão em uma fase permeada por dúvidas, em que as transformações vividas provocam inquietação e estranheza em relação a si próprios, estes necessitam de um auxílio qualificado, que se dá através do profissional de Psicologia. É nesse sentido que escolas se tornam importantes locais para a discussão de temáticas consideradas tabu, como o suicídio, tendo em vista o grande número de adolescentes que a frequentam. São desafios ainda encontrados muitas vezes pelos psicólogos a falta de abertura de espaços de atuação no âmbito escolar e os questionamentos sobre suas funções, sendo necessária uma maior visibilidade para esta área de atuação. Constatou-se neste trabalho que a série pode vir a fazer com que os adolescentes identifiquem-se com os temas abordados e então passem a falar mais sobre seus sentimentos, principalmente no ambiente escolar, onde passam a maior parte do tempo, podendo trocar experiências uns com os outros. Mas, para que isso ocorra, é necessário que a escola reconheça tal importância e passe a inserir o profissional de Psicologia em seu quadro de funcionários.
