Resumo: The need to reflect on the health care that has been offered in health facilities to the public in question, especially in relation to the nurse's duties in caring for the elderly in the finiteness of life. The study aimed to reveal the role of nurses in caring for elderly people in the finiteness of life. It is an Integrative Literature Review, with a qualitative approach, carried out with the VHL, accessing the LILACS and BDENF databases. The selection of articles took place from September to October 2021. Studies published in full, in Portuguese and English, from 2015 to 2021 were included. Data collection was performed using a form, previously validated and adapted from Ursi (2005). The search resulted in 1,391 articles, being selected, after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 13 articles. It was pointed out that nurses who offer palliative care work with the aim of meeting the needs of patients who need symptom relief and psychosocial care needs along with support for their families, especially in palliative care. It was concluded that the role of nursing in patient care in palliative care is essential, not only in the control of symptoms and pain relief, but also in communication with the family, also highlighting its role in the multidisciplinary team, in which it is prioritized comprehensive care, encompassing biopsychosocial aspects in the search for a better quality of life and well-being for the patient/family.

El estudio tuvo como objetivo revelar el papel de las enfermeras en el cuidado de las personas mayores en la finitud de la vida. Es una Revisión de Literatura Integrativa, con enfoque cualitativo, realizada con la BVS, accediendo a las bases de datos LILACS y BDENF. La selección de artículos se realizó de septiembre a octubre de 2021. Se incluyeron los estudios publicados íntegramente, en portugués e inglés, de 2015 a 2021. La recogida de datos se realizó mediante un formulario, previamente validado y adaptado de Ursi (2005). La búsqueda resultó en 1.391 artículos, siendo seleccionados, luego de aplicar los criterios de inclusión y exclusión, 13 artículos. Se señaló que las enfermeras que ofrecen cuidados paliativos trabajan con el objetivo de satisfacer las necesidades de los pacientes que necesitan alivio de síntomas y necesidades de atención psicosocial junto con el apoyo a sus familias, especialmente en cuidados paliativos. Se concluyó que el rol de la enfermería en el cuidado del paciente en cuidados paliativos es fundamental, no solo en el control de síntomas y alivio del dolor, sino también en la comunicación con la familia, destacando también su rol en el equipo multidisciplinario, en el que se prioriza. atención integral, abarcando aspectos biopsicosociales en la búsqueda de una mejor calidad de vida y bienestar para el paciente / familia.A necessidade de refletir sobre a assistência de saúde que vem sendo ofertada nos estabelecimentos de saúde para o público em questão, especialmente em relação às atribuições do enfermeiro no cuidado a pessoa idosa em finitude da vida. O estudo teve como objetivo revelar o protagonismo do Enfermeiro no cuidado a pessoa idosa em finitude da vida. Trata-se de uma Revisão Integrativa da Literatura, de abordagem qualitativa, realizado junto a BVS, acessando os bancos de dados da LILACS e BDENF. A seleção dos artigos ocorreu de setembro a outubro de 2021. Foram incluídos estudos publicados na íntegra, em português e inglês, no período de 2015 a 2021. A coleta de dados foi realizada por meio de um formulário, validado previamente e adaptado de Ursi (2005). A pesquisa resultou em 1.391 artigos, sendo selecionados, após aplicação dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão, 13 artigos. Pontuou-se que os enfermeiros que oferecem cuidados paliativos, atuam com intuito de atender às necessidades dos pacientes que necessitam de alívio dos sintomas e necessidades de atenção psicossocial junto com o apoio às suas famílias, principalmente em cuidados paliativos.
