Resumo: This study aims to analyze the peculiarities of palliative care in the elderly and the challenges faced by the nursing professional. A non-systematic literature review was carried out, with a qualitative approach. At the end of the study, it can be seen that palliative care is on the rise in the country, increasingly reaffirming the importance of a multidisciplinary team in this care, with the need for health and social support actions, in addition to the implementation of public policies directed at these individuals, with a view to promoting health and preventing diseases, as well as the possibility of minimizing overload and enhancing the quality of life of these individuals. It is also noteworthy that the elderly need active observation for the vulnerabilities brought about by advancing age, as well as cultural and social issues that must be considered for decision making in relation to palliative care.

Se realizó una revisión no sistemática de la literatura, con un enfoque cualitativo. Al final del estudio, se puede ver que los cuidados paliativos están en aumento en el país, reafirmando cada vez más la importancia de un equipo multidisciplinario en esta atención, con la necesidad de acciones de salud y apoyo social, además de la implementación de políticas públicas. dirigido a estos individuos, con el objetivo de promover la salud y prevenir enfermedades, así como la posibilidad de minimizar la sobrecarga y mejorar la calidad de vida de estos individuos. También es digno de mención que los ancianos necesitan una observación activa de las vulnerabilidades provocadas por el avance de la edad, así como los problemas culturales y sociales que deben considerarse para la toma de decisiones en relación con los cuidados paliativos.Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar as peculiaridades dos cuidados paliativos em idosos e os desafios enfrentados pelo profissional de Enfermagem. Foi realizada uma revisão não sistemática da literatura, com uma abordagem qualitativa. Ao final do estudo, pode-se verificar que os cuidados paliativos estão em crescente ascensão no país, cada vez mais reafirmando a importância de uma equipe multidisciplinar nesse cuidado, com a necessidade de ações de saúde e apoio social, além de implantação de políticas públicas direcionadas para esses indivíduos, com vistas na promoção à saúde e prevenção de agravos, bem como a possibilidade de minimizar a sobrecarga e potencializar a qualidade de vida desses indivíduos.
