Tuberculosis in the prison system: evaluation of the knowledge of prison staff in a municipality from Legal Amazon

Resumo: This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge of prison system staff in relation to the forms of transmission and prevention of tuberculosis. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional, field research, with a quantitative approach. A Knowledge, Attitude and Practice model questionnaire was used for data collection. Fifty-seven employees from prison system participated in the research. Of these, 32 reported never having participated in training courses that addressed the topic of tuberculosis and 39 did not consider themselves well informed about this disease. Some of the signs and symptoms of tuberculosis were correctly identified, while mistakes were observed regarding the form of prevention and transmission. There was a lack of information regarding tuberculosis. The acquisition of knowledge and daily life are essential for the effectiveness of the prison system servant as an active agent in the health-disease process of people deprived of their liberty.

Se trata de una investigación de campo descriptiva, transversal, con enfoque cuantitativo. Se utilizó un modelo de cuestionario de Conocimientos, Actitudes y Prácticas para la recolección de datos. 57 servidores del sistema penitenciario participaron en la investigación. De ellos, 32 informaron no haber participado nunca en cursos de formación que abordaran el tema de la tuberculosis y 39 no se consideraban bien informados sobre esta enfermedad. Algunos de los signos y síntomas de la tuberculosis se han identificado correctamente, mientras que se han observado conceptos erróneos sobre la forma de prevención y transmisión. Hubo falta de información sobre la tuberculosis. La adquisición de conocimientos y la vida cotidiana son fundamentales para la efectividad del servidor del sistema penitenciario como agente activo en el proceso salud-enfermedad de las personas privadas de libertad.Este estudo teve por objetivo avaliar o conhecimento dos servidores do sistema prisional em relação as formas de transmissão e prevenção da tuberculose. Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva, com corte transversal, de campo, com abordagem quantitativa. Utilizou-se um questionário do modelo Knowledge, Attitude and Practice para a coleta de dados. Participaram da pesquisa 57 servidores do sistema prisional. Desses, 32 informaram nunca ter participado de cursos de formação que abordasse a temática tuberculose e 39 não se consideram bem informados sobre essa doença. Foram corretamente identificados alguns dos sinais e sintomas da tuberculose, enquanto se observaram equívocos quanto a forma de prevenção e transmissão. Observou-se falta de informações com relação a tuberculose.
