Resumo: | This research aims to analyze the behavior of residents of a neighborhood in Vitória de Santo Antão-PE about the indiscriminate use of medicines during the period of the SARS-CoV-2 quarantine. This is an observational, cross-sectional study with a qualitative and quantitative approach. The inclusion criteria were over 18 years old who lived in the Matriz neighborhood, in the city of Vitória-PE and non-literate individuals were excluded. A self-completion questionnaire was applied face-to-face, with an active search for participants who lived in the neighborhood. With the results obtained, it is possible to verify a pattern of self-medication in the population (66.9%) with a sociodemographic profile represented by women (66.39%), individuals aged 21-29 years (33.60%), brown (42.32%), complete higher education (29.04%) and RFM between 1 and 3 minimum wages (42.32%). The most used drug class were anti-inflammatory drugs (18.1%). Almost 47% self-medicated as a way to prevent coronavirus. 65.60% of respondents understand the risks of inappropriate use and 66.14% say that the pandemic has impacted self-medication. SARS-CoV-2 has reignited debates and discussions in the health area, and it is of paramount importance to analyze the impacts that the pandemic has had on the indiscriminate consumption of medicines. There is a need to develop new research on these impacts on the Brazilian population, as well as to encourage health education and the rational use of medicines. |
