The risks of self-medication with exempted prescription drugs (MIPs) in Brazil

Resumo: | Medicines are essential to health and play an important role in the evolution of the quality and life of society. Brazil is one of the main consumers of pharmaceutical products, most of which are characterized as Prescription Medicines (MIPs), considered "safe" as long as they are used with the correct purpose and form. The objective of this research to describe the risks related to self-medication with Over-the-Counter Drugs (OTCs). This is a narrative literature review, through the SciELO, LILACS and MEDLINE/PubMed databases, with the proposal to analyze the risks related to self-medication with Over-the-Counter Drugs (MIPs). MIPs used in the right way configure responsible self-medication. Professional, it is allowed when accompanied by the pharmaceutical indication, where only the MIP selectors, to solve the professional's complaint, refer it there is need, and prescription to the doctor, which aims to promote, protect and recover health. The right to pharmaceutical prescription is guaranteed by Resolution 586/2013, and it is the duty of the professional to carry out it consciously and responsibly. The pharmacist is the professional qualified and guaranteed by law, to promote the safe and rational use of MIPs, ensuring the best quality of life, as it contributes to the reduction related to their indiscriminate use. |

Brasil es uno de los principales consumidores de productos farmacéuticos, la mayoría de los cuales se caracterizan como Medicamentos de Prescripción (MIP), considerados "seguros" siempre que se utilicen con el fin y la forma correctos. El objetivo de esta investigación es describir los riesgos relacionados con la automedicación con Medicamentos de Venta Libre (OTC). Se trata de una revisión narrativa de la literatura, a través de las bases de datos SciELO, LILACS y MEDLINE/PubMed, con la propuesta de analizar los riesgos relacionados con la automedicación con Medicamentos de Venta Libre (MIPs). Los MIP utilizados de forma correcta configuran una automedicación responsable. Profesional, se permite cuando va acompañada de la indicación farmacéutica, siendo únicamente los selectores del MIP, para resolver el reclamo del profesional, remitirlo en caso de necesidad, y prescripción al médico, que tenga por objeto promover, proteger y recuperar la salud. El derecho a la prescripción farmacéutica está garantizado por la Resolución 586/2013, y es deber del profesional realizarla de manera consciente y responsable. El farmacéutico es el profesional habilitado y avalado por la ley, para promover el uso seguro y racional de los MIP, asegurando la mejor calidad de vida, ya que contribuye a la reducción relacionada con su uso indiscriminado.Os medicamentos são bens primordiais à saúde e possuem um papel importante na evolução da qualidade e expectativa de vida da sociedade. O Brasil é um dos principais consumidores de produtos farmacêuticos, sendo a maioria caracterizados como Medicamentos Isentos de Prescrição (MIPs), considerados “seguros” desde que utilizados com finalidade e forma correta. O objetivo desta pesquisa é descrever os riscos relacionados à automedicação com os Medicamentos Isentos de Prescrição (MIPs). Trata-se de uma revisão de literatura do tipo narrativa, através das bases de dados SciELO, LILACS e MEDLINE/PubMed, com a proposta de analisar os riscos relacionados à automedicação com Medicamentos Isentos de Prescrição (MIPs). Os MIPs usados do modo correto, configuram automedicação responsável. Contudo, esse processo só é permitido quando acompanhado da indicação farmacêutica, onde o profissional seleciona o MIP, para solucionar a queixa do paciente ou encaminhá-lo ao médico se houver necessidade, e prescrição farmacêutica, que visa promoção, proteção e recuperação da saúde. O direito a prescrição farmacêutica é garantido pela Resolução nº 586/2013, sendo dever do profissional realiza-la de modo consciente e responsável.
