Eggs of Enterobius vermicularis in pregnant’s cervicovaginal smear: case report

Resumo: Cervico-vaginal oncotic colpocytology is an important cervical cancer screening test that must be performed by women periodically, including during pregnancy. Despite not being its main objective, the exam is capable of diagnosing some species of vaginal parasites, even in asymptomatic patients. The aim of this study was to report a case of vaginal parasitosis in a pregnant woman diagnosed at the Center for the Prevention of Gynecological Diseases of the Escola Paulista de Medicina of the Federal University of São Paulo and its treatment. The present document reports the case of a primiparous pregnant woman who was referred to the tertiary service for persistent vaginal bleeding in the first gestational trimester and who, during investigation, was diagnosed with vaginitis and the rare finding of Enterobius vermicularis eggs on cervical oncotic cytology. -vaginal. The success of the treatment is not the main challenge, but the prevention of reinfection or autoinfection. For this, hygiene habits should be encouraged to all members of the household, such as: washing hands frequently, avoiding scratching the anal area, performing daily hygiene with orientation of the hands from anterior to posterior and not sharing towels and personal hygiene items.

A pesar de no ser su principal objetivo, el examen es capaz de diagnosticar algunas especies de parásitos vaginales, incluso en pacientes asintomáticas. El objetivo de este estudio fue relatar un caso de parasitosis vaginal en una gestante diagnosticada en el Centro de Prevención de Enfermedades Ginecológicas de la Escola Paulista de Medicina de la Universidad Federal de São Paulo y su tratamiento. El presente documento reporta el caso de una gestante primípara que fue remitida al servicio de tercer nivel por persistencia de sangrado vaginal en el primer trimestre de gestación y a quien durante la investigación se le diagnosticó vaginitis y el raro hallazgo de huevos de Enterobius vermicularis en citología oncótica cervical. -vaginal. El éxito del tratamiento no es el principal reto, sino la prevención de la reinfección o autoinfección. Para ello, se deben fomentar hábitos de higiene a todos los miembros del hogar, tales como: lavarse las manos con frecuencia, evitar rascarse la zona anal, realizar la higiene diaria con orientación de las manos de anterior a posterior y no compartir toallas y artículos de higiene personal.A colpocitologia oncótica cérvico-vaginal é um importante exame de rastreio de câncer do colo do útero que deve ser realizado pelas mulheres com periodicidade, inclusive durante a gravidez. Apesar de não ser seu objetivo principal, o exame é capaz de diagnosticar algumas espécies de parasitas vaginais, mesmo em pacientes assintomáticas. O objetivo desse estudo foi relatar um caso de gestante com parasitose vaginal diagnosticada e tratada no Núcleo de Prevenção de Doenças Ginecológicas da Escola Paulista de Medicina da Universidade Federal de São Paulo. O presente documento relata o caso de uma gestante primigesta que foi encaminhada ao serviço terciário por quadro de sangramento vaginal persistente no primeiro trimestre gestacional e que, durante investigação, teve o diagnóstico de vaginite e o achado raro de ovos de Enterobius vermicularis na citologia oncótica cérvico-vaginal. O sucesso do tratamento não é o principal desafio, mas a prevenção de reinfecção ou autoinfecção.
