Resumo: Prematurity is characterized as a risk condition for the maintenance of the newborn's life, as the structure and functionality of the organs, depending on the gestational age at which extrauterine life begins, may not be compatible with it. In this sense, the lower the gestational age, the greater the risks and the need for intensive care. This study was designed to strengthen the dissemination of professional care for mothers of premature infants admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The method adopted was an experience report of health professionals on professional care for mothers of premature newborns assisted in the NICU from September 2019 to October 2020. The information was captured from listening and dialoguing with five mothers. The results found express the fear of loss and insecurity regarding the development of newborns and highlight nursing as a source of security, hope and support for mothers, based on welcoming. The nursing team stood out in the welcoming actions, as it was present and active at different levels and units of care with a focus on the humanization of care. He communicated and excelled in the execution of health care procedures and control and prevention of the coronavirus.
