Chemical profile and antimicrobial activity of abarema cochliacarpos

Resumo: | Abarema cochliacarpos is an endemic species from Brazil, it belongs to the Fabaceae family and is popularly known as barbatimão, being present in the Brazilian caatinga and cerrado. In Sergipe, its use is in the form of teas for anti-inflammatory and healing activities. As objects of this study, the leaves of the plant were used in order to qualitatively know the chemical constituents of the fractions obtained from the crude extract: chloroform fraction (FCL), hexane fraction (FHX), ethyl acetate fraction (FAE) and hydromethanolic fraction ( FHM) through phytochemical prospection by colorimetric assays, being detected the presence of secondary metabolites such as phenols, tannins, flavonols, catechins, steroids, triterpenoids and saponins. In the antimicrobial analysis, only two fractions showed inhibition halos. The FAE for Staphylococcus aureus (19.3 mm), Enterococcus durans hirae (10 mm), derived Escherichia coli (9.6 mm) and derived Pseudomonas aeruginosa (15 mm) strains, and the FCL for the E. durans strain hirae (9 mm). In the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) the FAE excelled with 12.5 µg.mL-1 for S. aureus and E. durans, while the FCL obtained 25 µg.mL-1 for E. durans. As for the cytotoxic analysis, FAE at the concentrations tested did not favor cell viability in 75%, showing antiproliferative capacity, except for FLC at 20 µg.mL-1. FAE and FCL showed antioxidant properties and obtained an antimicrobial effect, in addition to having metabolites that corroborate these functions. |

Como objetos de este estudio se utilizaron las hojas de la planta con el fin de conocer cualitativamente los constituyentes químicos de las fracciones obtenidas del extracto crudo: fracción de cloroformo (FCL), fracción de hexano (FHX), fracción de acetato de etilo (FAE) y fracción hidrometanólica. fracción (FHM) mediante prospección fitoquímica por ensayos colorimétricos, detectándose la presencia de metabolitos secundarios como fenoles, taninos, flavonoles, catequinas, esteroides, triterpenoides y saponinas. En el análisis antimicrobiano, solo dos fracciones presentaron halos de inhibición. El FAE para Staphylococcus aureus (19,3 mm), Enterococcus durans hirae (10 mm), cepas derivadas de Escherichia coli (9,6 mm) y derivadas de Pseudomonas aeruginosa (15 mm), y la FCL para la cepa hirae de E. durans (9 mm). En la concentración mínima inhibitoria (CIM) la FAE sobresalió con 12.5 µg.mL-1 para S. aureus y E. durans, mientras que la FCL obtuvo 25 µg.mL-1 para E. durans. En cuanto al análisis citotóxico, FAE a las concentraciones ensayadas no favoreció la viabilidad celular en un 75%, mostrando capacidad antiproliferativa, a excepción de FLC a 20 µg.mL-1. Como objetos deste estudo foram utilizados as folhas do vegetal a fim de conhecer qualitativamente os constituintes químicos das frações obtidas a partir do extrato bruto: fração clorofórmica (FCL), fração hexânica (FHX), fração acetato de etila (FAE) e fração hidrometanólica (FHM) através da prospecção fitoquímica por ensaios colorimétricos, sendo detectada a presença de metabólitos secundários como fenóis, taninos, flavonóis, catequinas, esteroides, triterpenóides e saponinas. Na análise antimicrobiana apenas duas frações apresentaram halos de inibição. A FAE para as cepas de Staphylococcus aureus (19,3 mm), Enterococcus durans hirae (10 mm), Escherichia coli derivada (9,6 mm) e Pseudomonas aeruginosa derivada (15 mm), e a FCL para a cepa E. durans hirae (9 mm). Na concentração inibitória mínima (MIC) a FAE sobressaiu-se com 12,5 µg.mL-1 para a S. aureus e E. durans, enquanto a FCL obteve 25 µg.mL-1 para E. durans. Quanto à análise citotóxica, a FAE nas concentrações testadas não favoreceu a viabilidade celular em 75%, apresentando capacidade antiproliferativa, exceto a FLC a 20 µg.mL-1.
