Strategies for maintaining the life of adolescents with special health needs

Resumo: Objective: To know the care strategies for maintaining the lives of adolescents with special health needs from the discourse of family members/caregivers. Methodology: Qualitative, descriptive research with data collection carried out in medical records and semi-structured interviews with 35 family members/caregivers of adolescents using the outpatient clinic of a university hospital. The interviews were subjected to double transcription and later discourse analysis in the Pecheutian current. Results: The family members' discourse emphasized the care demands required by the adolescents and the strategies for maintaining life. Many families needed to restructure themselves in favor of care, adapt the family's daily activities and travel a long itinerary in search of specialized care. Conclusions: Life-sustaining strategies refer to daily care, performing hygiene activities, using medicines correctly, taking care of food, clothing, performing blood tests and bladder catheterization. It is believed that the bond with professionals and health education are essential strategies for the continuity of care with a view to the integral care of these adolescents and their families.

Metodología: Investigación cualitativa y descriptiva con recolección de datos realizada en registros médicos y entrevistas semiestructuradas con 35 familiares/cuidadores de adolescentes que utilizan la clínica ambulatoria de un hospital universitario. Las entrevistas fueron sometidas a doble transcripción y posterior análisis del discurso en la corriente pecheutiana. Resultados: El discurso de los miembros de la familia enfatizó las demandas de cuidado requeridas por los adolescentes y las estrategias para mantener la vida. Muchas familias necesitaban reestructurarse en favor de la atención, adaptar las actividades diarias de la familia y recorrer un itinerario largo en busca de atención especializada. Conclusiones: las estrategias para mantener la vida se refieren a la atención diaria, la realización de actividades de higiene, el uso correcto de los medicamentos, el cuidado de los alimentos, la ropa, los análisis de sangre y la cateterización de la vejiga. Se cree que el vínculo con los profesionales y la educación para la salud son estrategias esenciales para la continuidad de la atención con miras a la atención integral de estos adolescentes y sus familias.Objetivo: Conhecer as estratégias de cuidado para a manutenção da vida de adolescentes com necessidades especiais de saúde a partir do discurso de familiares/cuidadores. Metodologia: Pesquisa qualitativa, descritiva com coleta de dados realizada em prontuários e entrevista semiestruturada com 35 familiares/cuidadores de adolescentes usuários do ambulatório de especialidades de um hospital universitário. As entrevistas foram submetidas a dupla transcrição e posteriormente a análise de discurso na corrente Pecheutiana. Resultados: O discurso dos familiares enfatizou as demandas de cuidados requeridas pelos adolescentes e as estratégias para a manutenção da vida. Muitas famílias precisaram se reestruturar em prol dos cuidados, adequar as atividades do cotidiano da família e percorrerem um longo itinerário em busca de cuidados especializados. Conclusões: As estratégias de manutenção da vida referem-se aos cuidados cotidianos, na realização de atividades de higiene, uso correto de medicamentos, cuidados com a alimentação, com o vestuário, na realização do hemoglicoteste e da sondagem vesical.
