A sociological look at peacebuilding circles

Resumo: This article deals with Peace Building Circles in public schools. The objective is to understand the types and structure of these Circles in the light of a sociological analysis, in view of the meanings that school subjects attribute to their experiences at school. For this, it is based on the theoretical framework of Elias, Goffman and Weber, from the dialogue with Boyes-Watson and Pranis and other authors relevant to the discussion. It uses semi-structured interviews, discussion groups and direct observation as methodological tools. The results, although not intended to exhaust the discussions, but in order to contribute to the broadening of views within a sociological perspective, show that the types of Peacebuilding Circles instigate different meanings for teachers, students and employees, with organizational structure from which meanings that go beyond a rational explanation. In short, the Circles awaken different perspectives that affect the participants in the school in some way.

El objetivo es comprender los tipos y estructura de estos Círculos a la luz de un análisis sociológico, en vista de los significados que los sujetos escolares atribuyen a sus experiencias en la escuela. Para ello, se basa en el marco teórico de Elias, Goffman y Weber, a partir del diálogo con Boyes-Watson y Pranis y otros autores relevantes para la discusión. Utiliza entrevistas semiestructuradas, grupos de discusión y observación directa como herramientas metodológicas. Los resultados, aunque no pretenden agotar las discusiones, sino contribuir a la ampliación de visiones dentro de una perspectiva sociológica, muestran que los tipos de Círculos de Construcción de Paz instigan diferentes significados para los docentes, estudiantes y empleados, con estructura organizativa de la cual emanan significados que van más allá de una explicación racional. En definitiva, los Círculos despiertan diferentes perspectivas que afectan de alguna manera a los participantes en la escuela.Este artigo trata dos Círculos de Construção de Paz na escola pública. Objetiva-se compreender os tipos e a estrutura desses Círculos à luz de uma análise sociológica, tendo em vista os significados que os sujeitos escolares atribuem às suas experiências na escola. Para isso, fundamenta-se no arcabouço teórico de Elias, de Goffman e de Weber, a partir do diálogo com Boyes-Watson e Pranis e demais autores pertinentes à discussão. Utiliza como instrumentais metodológicos a entrevista semiestruturada, grupos de discussão e observação direta. Os resultados, embora sem a intenção de esgotar as discussões, mas no sentido de contribuir com a ampliação dos olhares dentro de uma perspectiva sociológica, evidenciam que os tipos de Círculos de Construção de Paz instigam diversos significados para os(as) professores(as), os(as) estudantes e os(as) funcionários(as), com estrutura de organização das quais reverberam sentidos que vão além de uma explicação racional.
