Resumo: | Drying is a heat and mass transfer operation involving the removal of moisture, being an important and expensive step in the manufacturing process of several products. For ceramic materials, the drying process is necessary to remove the water that was added to the clay in the molding step and to provide the necessary strength to reduce the chances of failure during the product firing step. Control of the drying process is essential to reduce defects in the material, loss of productivity and energy consumption. Due to its importance, this work aims to present a review of several topics related to the drying of ceramic materials. Here, different aspects are discussed, such as: the fundamentals, moisture removal kinetics, defects, control and optimization of the drying process, with emphasis on clay products. The idea is to provide subsidies so that researchers and industrialists can improve their knowledge and make appropriate decisions on this topic of great importance for the country's economy. |

Para los materiales cerámicos, el proceso de secado es necesario para eliminar el agua que se agregó a la arcilla en el paso de moldeo y para proporcionar la resistencia necesaria para reducir las posibilidades de falla durante el paso de quemado del producto. El control del proceso de secado es fundamental para reducir defectos en el material, pérdida de productividad y consumo energético. Por su importancia, este trabajo tiene como objetivo presentar una revisión de varios temas relacionados con el secado de materiales cerámicos. Aquí se discuten diferentes aspectos, tales como: los fundamentos, cinética de remoción de humedad, defectos, control y optimización del proceso de secado, con énfasis en productos arcillosos. La idea es otorgar subsidios para que investigadores e industriales puedan mejorar sus conocimientos y tomar decisiones adecuadas sobre este tema de gran importancia para la economía del país.A secagem é uma operação de transferência de calor e massa envolvendo a remoção de umidade, sendo uma etapa importante e de elevado custo no processo de manufatura de diversos produtos. Para materiais cerâmicos, o processo de secagem é necessário para retirar a água que foi adicionada a argila na etapa de moldagem e conferir a resistência necessária para reduzir as chances de falhas durante a etapa de queima do produto. O controle do processo de secagem é essencial para reduzir defeitos no material, perda de produtividade e consumo energético. Devido à importância, esse trabalho tem por objetivo apresentar uma revisão de diversos tópicos relacionados com a secagem de materiais cerâmicos. Aqui são discutidos diferentes aspectos tais como: os fundamentos, as cinéticas de remoção de umidade, os defeitos, o controle e a otimização do processo de secagem, com ênfase a produtos de argila.
