Study on the burning Practices Developed by Rural Producers in the Municipality of São João do Sóter, Maranhão

Resumo: Fires are related to land use, I am a source of change and an important modeling agent of ecosystems and it is a cultural practice where many families of this technique for preparing the land for planting for family livelihood, its harm is little known for its population. In this sense, the study aimed to carry out data on the burning practices developed by rural producers in the village of Santa Maria in the municipality of São João do Sóter-MA. Data collections were performed using semi-open questionnaires and on-site observations to support the results. We interviewed 100 heads, 86% of the population has lived in the village for more than 40 years and 47% over the age of 60, 42% had incomplete elementary schooling, 96% of the families live in houses with mud structures and 48% of families are made up of four to six residents. 80% of families have subsistence agricultural activities. 99% burn the land for agricultural production, 62% produce charcoal from babassu coconut shells and 38% forest wood. 100% of respondents reported this problem and also predatory hunting. The burning practices is a cultural activity of the population, it is the main work tool in agriculture. The present study contributed to the provision of data that can assist in the elaboration of strategies in the management of fires in rural activities.

En este sentido, el estudio tuvo como objetivo realizar datos sobre las prácticas de quema desarrolladas por productores rurales en la vereda Santa Maria en el municipio de São João do Sóter-MA. Las recopilaciones de datos se realizaron mediante cuestionarios semiabiertos y observaciones in situ para respaldar los resultados. Entrevistamos a 100 jefes, 86% de la población ha vivido en el pueblo por más de 40 años y 47% mayor de 60 años, 42% tenía escolaridad primaria incompleta, 96% de las familias vive en casas con estructuras de barro y El 48% de las familias están formadas por cuatro a seis residentes. El 80% de las familias tienen actividades agrícolas de subsistencia. El 99% quema la tierra para la producción agrícola, el 62% produce carbón vegetal a partir de cáscaras de coco babasú y el 38% madera forestal. El 100% de los encuestados reportó este problema y también la caza depredadora. Las prácticas de quema es una actividad cultural de la población, es la principal herramienta de trabajo en la agricultura. El presente estudio contribuyó al suministro de datos que pueden ayudar en la elaboración de estrategias en el manejo de incendios en actividades rurales.As queimadas estão relacionadas ao uso da terra, sendo uma fonte de mudanças e importante agente modelador dos ecossistemas e é uma prática cultural onde muitas famílias dessa técnica para o preparo da terra para a realização de plantios para o sustento familiar, seus malefícios são poucos conhecidos pela população. Nesse sentido, o estudo teve como objetivo realizar levamentos de dados sobre as práticas queimadas desenvolvidas por produtores rurais no povoado Santa Maria no município de São João do Sóter- MA. As coletas dos dados foram realizadas através de aplicações de questionários semiaberto e observações in loco para fundamentação dos resultados. Entrevistamos 100 chefes, 86% da população residem há mais de 40 anos no povoado e 47% com a idade superior a 60 anos, 42% apresentaram o grau de escolaridade ensino fundamental incompleto, 96% das famílias residem em casas com estrutura de taipa e 48% das famílias é composta por quatro a seis moradores. 80% das famílias tem como meio de subsistência as atividades agrícolas. 99% realizam queimadas nos terrenos para produção agrícola, 62% produzem carvão das cascas do coco babaçu e 38% de madeira florestal. 100% dos entrevistados relataram essa problemática e também a caça predatória.  As práticas de queimadas é uma atividade cultural da população, é a principal ferramenta de trabalho na agricultura.
