Railways in Brazil: Future and ongoing projects

Resumo: The Brazilian truck drivers' strike in Brazil in May 2018 was merely an illustration of the current scenario of transportation modes in the country. The dominant use of the highways in relation to other modalities means that the logistics and transportation of cargo and passengers throughout the national territory is precarious and deficient. The predominance of the modal route results in underutilization of railways, one of the most important modalities in the development of great world powers, such as Germany and the United States. Thus, this research aims to analyze the current and future scenario of Brazilian railways. For this, future and ongoing projects of this mode of transport in Brazil were researched in the literature. Even nowadays it is very unexplored, the Brazilian railway network has an enormous potential, which, in order to be better utilized, needs to be increased. Making projects that are being built and future projects can expand the country's rail network.

El uso dominante de las carreteras en relación a otros modos hace que la logística y el transporte de carga y pasajeros en el territorio nacional sea precaria y deficiente. El predominio del modal vial da como resultado la subutilización de los ferrocarriles, uno de los modos más importantes en el desarrollo de grandes potencias mundiales, como Alemania y Estados Unidos. Así, esta investigación tiene como objetivo analizar el escenario actual y futuro de los ferrocarriles brasileños. Para ello, se investigaron en la literatura proyectos futuros y en curso de este modo de transporte en Brasil. Si bien en la actualidad está en gran parte inexplorada, la red ferroviaria brasileña tiene un enorme potencial, que para ser mejor aprovechado es necesario ampliar las inversiones. Realización de los proyectos que se están construyendo y proyectos futuros para ampliar la red ferroviaria del país.A greve nacional dos caminhoneiros do Brasil em maio de 2018 foi apenas uma ilustração do cenário atual dos modais de transportes no país. A utilização dominante das rodovias em relação aos outros modais faz com que a logística e o transporte de cargas e passageiros em todo o território nacional seja precária e deficitária. O predomínio do modal rodoviário resulta na subutilização das ferrovias, um dos modais mais importantes no desenvolvimento de grandes potências mundiais, como Alemanha e Estados Unidos. Dessa forma, esta pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar o cenário atual e futuro das ferrovias brasileiras. Para isso, foram pesquisads na literatura projetos futuros e em andamento desse modal de transporte no Brasil. Mesmo atualmente sendo bastante inexplorada, a malha ferroviária brasileira possui uma enorme potencialidade, que, para ser melhor aproveitada, é necessário que os investimentos sejam ampliados.
