Valuing knowledge about medicinal plants: an approach to science teaching

Resumo: Analizes of methodologies that gather scientific information about students' daily lives is important to reflection and the construction of strategies for a better understanding of contents. This article sought to value the knowledge about medicinal plants and to use them in contexts of culture and tradition in botanical education to contribute to the teaching of science, in the municipality of Paragominas, Pará, Brazil. The methodology used was action research, in which students and the teacher of the class sciences were interviewed. Thus, actions were developed that sought to promote the interdisciplinarity of the contents (photosynthesis and food chain) with the proposed theme through theoretical class and making a garden in the school environment. From the results, it was concluded that those involved were stimulated with this teaching practice, which contributed to the contextualized understanding of the botany content.

Este artículo buscó valorar los conocimientos tradicionales sobre plantas medicinales y utilizarlos en la enseñanza de las ciencias como propuesta de actividad para las clases de Botánica, en el municipio de Paragominas, Pará, Brasil. Se utilizó investigación-acción, además de entrevistas con 34 estudiantes y el docente. Factores como la falta de información relacionada con el tema, la falta de estímulo por parte de los estudiantes y la necesidad de mayor apoyo para la realización de las clases, fueron señalados como dificultades para el desarrollo de nuevos enfoques. Los estudiantes fueron muy participativos, pero demostraron dificultades con el uso de la nomenclatura científica, lo que generó desinterés en la clase. Se desarrollaron acciones que buscaron promover la interdisciplinariedad de los contenidos (fotosíntesis y cadena alimentaria) y la contextualización de la temática propuesta a través de la construcción de un jardín de plantas medicinales en el ámbito escolar. La instalación del jardín cautivó la curiosidad de los estudiantes y el personal escolar que se sintieron participativos con la práctica docente adoptada.As análises de metodologias que vinculam informações científicas ao cotidiano dos alunos colaboram com a reflexão e a construção de um diálogo para o melhor entendimento dos conteúdos. Este artigo buscou valorizar os conhecimentos tradicionais sobre plantas medicinais e utilizá-los no ensino de Ciências como proposta de atividade para as aulas de Botânica, no município de Paragominas, Pará, Brasil. Foi empregada pesquisa-ação, além de entrevistas com 34 alunos e a professora. Fatores como a carência de informação relacionada ao tema, falta de estímulo por parte dos alunos e a necessidade de mais apoio para a realização das aulas, foram apontados como dificuldades para o desenvolvimento de novas abordagens. Os alunos foram bastante participativos, porem demonstraram dificuldades com o emprego da nomenclatura científica, o que gerou desinteresse pela aula. Foram desenvolvidas ações que buscaram promover a interdisciplinaridade dos conteúdos (fotossíntese e cadeia alimentar) e a contextualização do tema proposto por meio da confecção de um jardim de plantas medicinais no ambiente escolar.
