Epidemiology of suicide in a Pantanal municipality: temporal analysis between 1996 and 2019

Resumo: Objective: The present research analyzed the temporal trend of the suicide mortality rate between age groups, methods of committing suicide, sex and months of the year in the city of Cáceres, in the state of Mato Grosso, between 1996 and 2019. Methodology: This is a sample study, documentary, descriptive, quantitative, focusing on cases of suicide that occurred in Cáceres between 1996 and 2019. The data were retrieved from the website of the Department of Information of the Unified Health System (DATASUS), adopting the International Classification of Diseases (CID-10). The comparisons were analyzed statistically using ANOVA with application of F test, Tukey test and Student test, using a significance level of 5% (p < 0,05). Results: During the 24 years analyzed (1996-2019) it was shown that there were 145 suicides in Cáceres, an average of 6 deaths annually. In the 12 months of the year in the analyzed period, the months of July and December had 18 deaths each, while in November there were five deaths. The highest mortality rate occurred among the elderly (over 80 years old) with a rate of 12,67/100 thousand inhabitants. Males had a higher mortality rate (10.7/100 thousand inhabitants), beings up to 4 times higher than females (2,7/100 thousand inhabitants). The most used method to commit suicide in the period in the city of Cáceres was hanging, corresponding to 60,9%. Conclusion: Thus, the sex and age group that most commit suicide are males and the elderly. Furthermore, the most used method of committing suicide was hanging.

Metodología: Se trata de un estudio muestral, documental, descriptivo, cuantitativo, centrado en los casos de suicidio ocurridos en Cáceres entre 1996 y 2019. Los datos fueron recuperados de lo sitio del Departamento de Información del Sistema Único de Salud (DATASUS), adoptando la Clasificación Internacional de Enfermedades (CID-10). Las comparaciones se analizaron estadísticamente mediante ANOVA con aplicación de prueba F, prueba de Tukey y prueba de Student, utilizando un nivel de significancia del 5% (p < 0,05). Resultados: Durante los 24 años analizados (1996-2019) se demonstró que hubo 145 suicidios en Cáceres, una media de 6 muertes anuales. Em los 12 meses del año en el período analizado, los meses de julio y diciembre tuvieron 18 muertes cada uno, mientras que en noviembre hubo cinco muertes. La mayor tasa de mortalidad se presentó entre los ancianos (mayores de 80 años) con una tasa de 12,67/100 mil habitantes. Los hombres presentaron una mayor tasa de mortalidad (10,7/100 mil habitantes), siendo hasta 4 veces mayor que las mujeres (2,7/100 mil habitantes). El método más utilizado para suicidarse en el período en la ciudad de Cáceres fue el ahorcamiento, correspondiente al 60,9%. Conclusión: Así, el sexo y el grupo de edad que más se suicidan son los hombres y los ancianos. Además, el método más utilizado para suicidarse era el ahorcamiento.Objetivo: O presente estudo analisou a tendência temporal da taxa de mortalidade por suicídio entre as faixas etárias, métodos para cometer suicídio, sexo e meses do ano no município de Cáceres no estado de Mato Grosso entre os anos de 1996 a 2019. Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo amostral, documental, descritivo, quantitativo, focando nos casos de suicídios ocorridos em Cáceres entre 1996 a 2019. As comparações foram analisadas estatisticamente utilizando ANOVA com aplicação do teste F, teste de Tukey e teste de Student, utilizando um nível de significância de 5% (p < 0,05). Resultados: Durante os 24 anos analisados (1996-2019) mostraram que ocorreram 145 óbitos em Cáceres, uma média de 6 mortes anualmente.  Nos 12 meses do ano no período analisado, os meses de Julho e dezembro apresentaram 18 óbitos cada um, já no mês de novembro cinco mortes. A maior taxa de mortalidade ocorreu entre os idosos (acima de 80 anos) com uma taxa 12,67/100 mil habitantes. O sexo masculino apresentou maior taxa de mortalidade (10,7/100 mil habitantes), sendo até 4 vezes maior que o sexo feminino (2,7/100 mil habitantes). O método mais utilizado para cometer suicídio no período no município de Cáceres foi o enforcamento, correspondendo a 60,9%. Conclusão:  Dessa forma, o sexo e a faixa etária que mais comete suicídio são os do sexo masculino e os idosos.
