Resumo: This paper aimed to: understand the knowledge of adolescents about Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and ways of prevention. Descriptive study, with a qualitative approach, used Content Analysis. Research carried out in a private school located in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The participants were high school students interviewed using a semi-structured instrument. The analysis technique was: pre-analysis, material exploration and treatment of results, inference and interpretation. The research has the number 2,834,899 of approval by the Ethics and Research Committee. The findings led to two analytical categories: (In)consistency about sexuality, sex life and (dis)guidance; and Uncertain certainties: sexually transmitted infections from the perspective of adolescent students. All adolescents consider the topic of sexuality as a non-dialogical subject, a taboo, both in the family space and in the school environment. An experience characterized by shyness, the moment of transition and a period of maturity related to adolescence. The study concludes that it is essential to strengthen dialogue strategies with adolescent students about sexuality and STI prevention. The school, in addition to the home, is a privileged space for conversations, debates and clarifications that can provide quality information and conscious choices.

The school, in addition to the home, is a privileged space for conversations, debates and clarifications that can provide quality information and conscious choices.
