Understanding care in the feeding of family members/caregivers of elderly people with Alzheimer's disease

Resumo: | The objective of this study was to understand the understanding of family members/caregivers of elderly people with Alzheimer's disease about nutrition in preventing the disease. This is an exploratory, descriptive research with a qualitative approach, developed with seven family members/caregivers of elderly people with Alzheimer's disease, participants in a support group for family members/caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease, located in a city of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Data were collected in the period from April to May 2017, using the Focus Group technique, and were analyzed using the content analysis technique. As a result, six categories were identified: Food as a Health enhancer; food as a feeling enhancer; food as a way to bring people together; relationship between food and Alzheimer's disease; stimuli in the diet of the elderly person; food as a memory enhancer. It is concluded that family members/caregivers recognize the importance of food in the daily life of the elderly with Alzheimer's disease. |

Esta es una investigación exploratoria, descriptiva con un enfoque cualitativo, desarrollada con siete familiares/cuidadores de personas mayores con enfermedad de Alzheimer, participantes en un grupo de apoyo para familiares/cuidadores de personas con enfermedad de Alzheimer, ubicados en un ciudad de Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Los datos se recopilaron en el período de abril a mayo de 2017, utilizando la técnica de grupo de enfoque, y se analizaron utilizando la técnica de análisis de contenido. Como resultado, se identificaron seis categorías: los alimentos como potenciadores de la salud; la comida como potenciador de sentimientos; la comida como una forma de unir a las personas; relación entre comida y enfermedad de Alzheimer; estímulos en la dieta de la persona mayor; La comida como potenciador de la memoria. Se concluye que los familiares/cuidadores reconocen la importancia de los alimentos en la vida diaria de los ancianos con enfermedad de Alzheimer.Objetivou-se conhecer a compreensão dos familiares/cuidadores de pessoas idosas com a doença de Alzheimer acerca da alimentação na prevenção da doença. Trata-se de uma pesquisa exploratória, descritiva, de abordagem qualitativa, desenvolvida com sete familiares/cuidadores de pessoas idosas com a doença de Alzheimer, participantes de um grupo de apoio para familiares/cuidadores de pessoas com a doença de Alzheimer, localizado em uma cidade do rio grande do sul, Brasil. Os dados foram coletados, no período de abril a maio de 2017, pela técnica de grupo focal e, foram analisados pela técnica de análise de conteúdo. Como resultados, identificaram-se seis categorias: o alimento como potencializador de saúde; o alimento como potencializador de sentimentos; alimentação como forma de unir as pessoas; relação da alimentação com a doença de Alzheimer; estímulos na alimentação da pessoa idosa; alimento como potencializador de lembranças.
