The importance of education and culture for the construction of social belonging for young people in Bairro do Roger

Resumo: This work aims to search and list the cultural manifestations in Roger's neighborhood, João Pessoa, Paraíba. It also aims to make a relationship between the social condition of poverty in the neighborhood and the importance of education and culture to promote critical reflection and the construction of belonging for young people in this place. The choice of this population for this study was not random. It is understood, according to Historical-Critical Materialism, that there are strong traces of capitalist exclusionary power and the conception of hegemonic and subaltern classes. Studies and publications were consulted that expose adversities experienced in the near past (1958 to 2003) by children, young people and other residents and workers in the region. The people of Bairro do Roger live not only from fights and clashes. There is space for joy, celebrations and lots of relaxation among these residents. The most experienced are responsible for governing and passing on the importance of enhancing and cultivating local history, through cultural, religious and sports movements, which are strongly disseminated in this population. The main cultural manifestations found in the neighborhood were: Samba Schools, Demonstrations of African Matrices, Capoeira, Quadrilha Junina, Religious Feasts, Ala Ursas and Tournament of Rings.It is concluded that education, along with the culture of Roger's neighborhood, favors critical thinking and social belonging, which enhances the recognition of the citizen as the maintainer of community and individual rights and duties. Recognizing oneself helps in the recognition of others, generating respect, empathy and understanding of the social diversity in which people are inserted.

También pretende hacer una relación entre la condición social de pobreza en el barrio y la importancia de la educación y la cultura para promover la reflexión crítica y la construcción de pertenencia de los jóvenes en este lugar. La elección de esta población para este estudio no fue aleatoria. Se entiende, según el Materialismo Histórico-Crítico, que existen fuertes huellas del poder excluyente capitalista y la concepción de clases hegemónicas y subalternas. Se consultaron estudios y publicaciones que exponen adversidades vividas en el pasado cercano (1958 a 2003) por niños, jóvenes y otros pobladores y trabajadores de la región. La gente del Bairro do Roger vive no solo de peleas y enfrentamientos. Hay espacio para la alegría, la celebración y mucha relajación entre estos residentes. Los más experimentados son los encargados de gobernar y transmitir la importancia de realzar y cultivar la historia local, a través de movimientos culturales, religiosos y deportivos, que se encuentran fuertemente difundidos en esta población. Las principales manifestaciones culturales encontradas en el barrio fueron: Escuelas de Samba, Demostraciones de Matrices Africanas, Capoeira, Quadrilha Junina, Fiestas Religiosas, Ala Ursas y Torneo de Anillos. Se concluye que la educación, junto con la cultura del barrio de Roger, favorece el pensamiento crítico y la pertenencia social, lo que potencia el reconocimiento del ciudadano como mantenedor de los derechos y deberes comunitarios e individuales. Reconocerse ayuda en el reconocimiento de los demás, generando respeto, empatía y comprensión de la diversidad social en la que están insertas las personas.Este trabalho objetiva buscar e elencar as manifestações culturais no Bairro do Roger, João Pessoa, Paraíba. Objetiva também fazer uma relação entre a condição social de pobreza do bairro e a importância da educação e da cultura para favorecer a reflexão crítica e construção de pertencimento dos jovens desse local. A escolha dessa população para este estudo não foi ocasional. Entende-se, conforme o Materialismo Histórico-Crítico, que nela há fortes traços do poder excludente capitalista e da concepção de classes hegemônicas e subalternas. Foram consultados estudos e publicações que expõem adversidades vividas em passado próximo (1958 a 2003) por crianças, jovens e demais moradores e trabalhadores da região. Nem só de lutas e embates vivem as pessoas do Bairro do Roger. Há espaço para alegria, festejos e muita descontração entre esses moradores. Os mais experientes têm a incumbência de reger e repassar a importância de enaltecer e cultivar a história local, por meio dos movimentos culturais, religiosos e esportivos, fortemente difundidos nessa população. As principais manifestações culturais encontradas no bairro foram: Escolas de Samba, Demonstrações de Matrizes Africanas, Capoeira, Quadrilha Junina, Festejos Religiosos, Ala Ursas e Torneio de Argolinhas. Conclui-se que a educação, junto com a cultura do bairro do Roger, favorece um pensamento crítico e de pertencimento social, o que aprimora o reconhecimento do cidadão enquanto mantenedor de direitos e deveres comunitários e individuais.
