Traps efficiency in the capture of Xylosandrus compactus (Eichhoff, 1875) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) during the early development of Aniba rosaeodora Ducke

Resumo: Xylosandrus compactus (Coleoptera: Curculionidade: Scolytinae) is a pest insect with widespread occurrence in 114 countries, causing damage to both seedlings and trees production of approximately 220 species, including Aniba rosaeodora Ducke (Rosewood). In Brazil, X. compactus already occurs in the states of Amazonas, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Pará, Rondônia and Tocantins. Due to the difficulty of handling this pest, this study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of the Carvalho-47, IAPAR, and PET-SM traps, using 30 ml of bait, with it being 70° alcohol or a mixture of methanol and 70° alcohol (3:1). The collections were carried out weekly over for 12 months. The experiment was conducted in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) in a 3 x 2 factorial scheme (3 types of traps x 2 types of bait) with 4 repetitions each. After one year of monitoring, 2.463 individuals were captured, recording reduced losses of 21.42% in the seedling production of A. rosaeodora. There was no statistically significant interaction between traps and baits. The bait composed by methanol plus 70° alcohol was more efficient than the use of 70° alcohol alone. IAPAR and PET-SM trap models were more efficient in capturing X. compactus. Therefore, we recommend these two models, using methanol plus 70° alcohol as bait, to reduce investment costs in ineffective insecticides and avoid losses in seedling production.

En el Brasil, X. compactus ya fue registrado en los estados del Amazonas, Bahía, Espíritu Santo, Minas Gerais, Pará, Rondônia y Tocantins. Por tanto, el objetivo del estudio fue evaluar la eficiencia de las armadillas Carvalho-47, IAPAR y PET-SM, utilizando 30 ml de sustancia atractiva, siendo alcohol 70° o mezcla de metanol más alcohol 70° (3:1). Las colectas fueron realizadas quincenalmente, durante 12 meses. El experimento fue instalado en Diseño Completamente al Azar (DCA) con arreglo factorial 3 x 2 (3 tipos de armadillas x 2 tipos de sustancia atractiva) con 4 repeticiones por tratamiento. Después de un año de seguimiento, se capturó 2.463 individuos, registrándose pérdidas reducidas de 21,42% en la producción de plántulas de A. rosaeodora. No hubo interacción significativa estadísticamente entre armadillas y sustancias atractivas. La sustancia atractiva compuesta de metanol más alcohol 70° (3:1) fue más efectiva que el uso de solamente alcohol 70°. Las armadillas IAPAR y PET-SM, fueron más eficientes en la captura de X. compactus. De esa manera, recomendamos esos dos modelos, utilizando metanol más alcohol 70° (3:1) como sustancia atractiva, para reducir los costos de inversión en insecticidas ineficientes y evitar pérdidas en la producción de plántulas.Xylosandrus compactus (Coleoptera: Curculionidade: Scolytinae) é um inseto-praga com ampla ocorrência em 114 países, causando danos tanto na produção de mudas quanto em árvores de aproximadamente 220 espécies, incluindo Aniba rosaeodora Ducke (Pau-rosa). No Brasil, X. compactus já tem ocorrência nos estados do Amazonas, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Pará, Rondônia e Tocantins. Devido à dificuldade de manejar e controlar essa praga, o objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a eficiência das armadilhas Carvalho-47, IAPAR e PET-SM, utilizando 30 ml de isca, sendo álcool 70° ou mistura de metanol mais álcool 70° (3:1). As coletas foram realizadas quinzenalmente, durante 12 meses. O experimento foi desenvolvido em Delineamento Inteiramente Casualizado (DIC) em esquema fatorial 3 x 2 (3 tipos de armadilhas x 2 tipos de isca) com 4 repetições cada. Após um ano de monitoramento, capturou-se 2.463 indivíduos, registrando-se perdas reduzidas de 21,42% na produção de mudas de A. rosaeodora. Não houve interação significativa estatisticamente entre armadilhas e iscas. A isca composta de metanol mais álcool 70° (3:1) foi mais eficiente que o uso somente de álcool 70°. As armadilhas IAPAR e PET-SM, foram melhores na captura de X. compactus.
