Resumo: | The objective of this research was to evaluate vulnerability conditions for SARS-CoV-19, based on data from the study “Health Profile of the Elderly Population of the Municipalities of the Regional Health Management of Uberaba - Minas Gerais”. This is a population-based cross-sectional study, approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro, whose sample is representative of the elderly population residing in the Macro-region of the Triângulo Sul de Minas Gerais. The elderly participants answered a structured questionnaire and instruments validated for the Brazilian elderly population, such as the GDS-15, WHOQOL-OLD and WHOQOL-OLD, Edmont scale, Lawton and Katz Index. The collected data were tabulated in double typing in an Excel spreadsheet, version 2016, and the statistical analyzes were performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software, version 22.0. This study identified elderly, predominantly aged 60 to 74 years, female, retired and with a partner. It was noted that there was a pre-eminence of non-vulnerable and independent elderly people, evidencing an active aging of this population. A good perception of quality of life was identified, but dependence was identified for instrumental activities. The learning reinforced in this pandemic is that the elderly have characteristics and peculiarities, in addition to the diversity / plurality / complexity of human aging. In this scenario, despite the fundamental concepts of epidemiology, virology, immunology, and many other necessary and recurring concepts, one cannot abstain from the fundamentals of gerontological theory and practice, which promote the differential for the adoption of effective measures in the protection of the risk group of seniors. Keywords: Elderly; SARS-CoV-19; Quality of life; Nursing. |
