A look at youth and adult education: what students say about dropping out and returning to school in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic

Resumo: | Taking as a methodological approach the field research aligned with bibliographic research, this work aims to present a look on the subjects of Youth and Adult Education (YAE) of Elementary School of a municipal school on the western border of Rio Grande do Sul State, facing their situation. It was sought to map the reasons for dropping out of school in times that they should be studying and, at the same time, contextualize the impact of social leave caused by COVID-19 in view of their expectations and longings exactly in a period that they chose to return to school and complete their schooling. From the perspective of Content Analysis, the research data have pointed to the perspectives and longings for the return to classes, just at the moment when the school needs to be closed due to the threat of contagion by COVID-19. The study has shown that the target public of the study does not receive affirmative actions from federal government, having serious difficulties in follow school activities via the Internet due to lack of financial resources. Thus, the research have shown that the subjects of the YAE, when returning to school, face issues already experienced in the past: lack of conditions to maintain the family given the difficulties that the pandemic period puts them, which forces many to abandon their studies again. The remaining ones report being happy with the return to school and see in the physical presence the possibility of further learning, since they are not able to follow the virtual classes due to both financial and time to perform the pedagogical tasks reasons. |

Buscamos mapear las razones de la deserción escolar en tiempos que deberían estar estudiando y, al mismo tiempo, contextualizar el impacto de la licencia social causada por COVID-19 en vista de sus expectativas y anhelos exactamente en un período que eligieron para regresar a la escuela y completar su escolaridad. Desde la perspectiva del Análisis de Contenidos, los datos de la investigación apuntan a las perspectivas y anhelos por el regreso a los bancos escolares, justo en el momento en que la escuela necesita cerrarse en persona, debido a la amenaza de contagio por COVID-19. El estudio mostró que el público estudiado no tiene acciones afirmativas del gobierno federal, teniendo serias dificultades para monitorear las actividades escolares a través de Internet debido a la falta de recursos financieros. Así, la investigación mostró que los sujetos de la EJA al regresar a la escuela enfrentan problemas ya experimentados en el pasado: falta de condiciones para mantener a la familia, dadas las dificultades que les pone el período de pandemia, obligando a muchos a abandonar sus estudios nuevamente. Los restantes reportan estar contentos con el regreso a clases y ven en la presencia física la posibilidad de un mayor aprendizaje, ya que no son capaces de seguir las clases virtuales por razones económicas y tiempo para realizar las tareas pedagógicas.Tendo como abordagem metodológica a pesquisa de campo alinhada com a pesquisa bibliográfica, este trabalho tem o objetivo de apresentar o olhar dos sujeitos da Educação de Jovens e Adultos do EF de uma escola municipal da fronteira oeste do Rio Grande do Sul frente a sua situação. Buscou-se mapear as razões do abandono à escola em tempos que deveriam estar estudando e, ao mesmo tempo, contextualizar o impacto do afastamento social provocado pelo COVID-19 frente as suas expectativas e anseios exatamente em um período que optaram por retornar à escola e concluir sua escolaridade. Sob a ótica da Análise de Conteúdo, os dados da pesquisa apontam as perspectivas e anseios para a volta aos bancos escolares, bem no momento em que a escola precisa fechar-se presencialmente, devido a ameaça do contágio pela COVID-19. O estudo mostrou que o público estudado não possui ações afirmativas do governo federal, tendo sérias dificuldades em acompanhar as atividades escolares via internet por falta de recursos financeiros. Destarte, a pesquisa mostrou que os sujeitos da EJA ao retornarem à escola defrontam-se com questões já vivenciadas no passado: falta de condições para manter a família, visto as dificuldades que o período pandêmico os coloca, forçando muitos a abandonar, novamente, os estudos.
