Pharmacological properties of species of the genres: Myrcia, Eugenia and Psidium – Myrtaceae-, typical of the Cerrado: A scope review

Myrtaceae is one of the most expressive botanical families in the Cerrado biome and the genera Myrcia, Eugenia and Psidium are one of the most diverse in number of species. Through a scoping review, the aim was to trace the pharmacological properties that the species of these genera present in the scientific literature, as well as to identify the main gaps in knowledge. To this end, the databases Scielo, Bireme, Lilacs, Pubmed/Medline, and BDTD were searched, using as descriptors the scientific names of species present in the Cerrado. The studies were selected following eligibility criteria and analysis of their contents and use of the species. Of 1002 articles found, 219 met the inclusion criteria. It was identified that the leaves were the most used, and that among the pharmacological properties found, antioxidant, antifungal, enzyme inhibitor, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and acaricidal properties were highlighted. It was observed that the antioxidant activity is characteristic, with ample use of leaves and fruits, and that it is necessary to increase the number of studies both with species in which pharmacological properties were identified and others that have not yet been evaluated. There is still an unexplored field and the genera and species need to be better studied.
