Resumo: Objective: To investigate the association between the Sense of Coherence (SOC) of guardians and the severity of carious lesions in pediatric patients. Material and methods: This is an analytical cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, carried out at the Dentistry School Clinic of the Federal University of Ceará - Campus Sobral, with a sample of 43 patients and their guardians, treated at the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic. The research included a survey of dental records to quantify the dmft\DMFT index and a questionnaire on oral health and hygiene, sociodemographic and Sense of Coherence (SOC-13) applied to those responsible. Data were analyzed by Fisher's exact test (p < 0.05). Results: The DMFT found was 5.21 (SD+-2.19). Of the patients analyzed, 69.8% (n=30) had high caries severity (DMFT ≥ 5), associated with a lower age group (p=0.01). The SOC of those responsible had a median of 37 points, showing a tendency of Strong Sense of Coherence in the studied population. There was no statistically significant association between dental caries severity and caregivers' SOC (p = 0.09). Conclusion: The guardians' Sense of Coherence was not associated with the severity of carious lesions in the analyzed patients.

Research, Society and Development2022-05-19info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/2977310.33448/rsd-v11i7.29773Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 No. 7; e15611729773Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 Núm. 7; e15611729773Research, Society and Development; v. 11 n. 7; e156117297732525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/29773/25731Copyright (c) 2022 Eraldo Diniz Costa; Mariana Ramalho de Farias ; Beatriz Gonçalves Neves ; Jacques Antonio Cavalcante Maciel https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessCosta, Eraldo Diniz Farias , Mariana Ramalho de Neves , Beatriz Gonçalves Maciel , Jacques Antonio Cavalcante 2022-06-06T15:12:05Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/29773Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:46:45.573677Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
