Aerobic treatment of organic solid waste generated in a vertical condominium as a sustainable alternative

Resumo: The form of improper disposal of solid household waste is one of the challenges for global environmental security. In this context, this article seeks to evaluate the performance of the aerobic biological treatment applied to the putrescible organic fraction of household solid waste generated in a vertical residential condominium. The experimental system consisted of two types of composters and three repetitions for each type with a 30 kg capacity. The physical, chemical and sanitary parameters used in the research were temperature, aeration, moisture content, total solids, total volatile solids, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, potassium, pH and helminth eggs. The results of the research present significant values ​​of the physical and chemical parameters obtained in the aerobic bio-stabilization process and the generation of organic compost within a good quality standard. For the amount of helminth eggs, it suffered a significant reduction, starting at 4.6 eggs/gTS and no helminth eggs were found in the organic compound produced. Thus, the aerobic biological treatment contributed to the nutrient cycling process, enabling the transformation of a major environmental and public health problem, into a sustainable solution in the economic and social environmental field.

En este contexto, este artículo busca evaluar el desempeño del tratamiento biológico aeróbico aplicado a la fracción orgánica putrescible de los residuos sólidos domiciliarios generados en un condominio residencial vertical. El sistema experimental consistió en dos tipos de compostadores y tres repeticiones para cada tipo con una capacidad de 30 kg. Los parámetros físicos, químicos y sanitarios utilizados en la investigación fueron temperatura, aireación, contenido de humedad, sólidos totales, sólidos volátiles totales, nitrógeno total, fósforo total, potasio, pH y huevos de helmintos. Los resultados de la investigación presentan valores significativos de los parámetros físicos y químicos obtenidos en el proceso de bioestabilización aeróbica y generación de compost orgánico dentro de un buen estándar de calidad. En cuanto a la cantidad de huevos de helmintos, sufrió una reducción significativa, partiendo de 4,6 huevos/gST y no se encontraron huevos de helmintos en el compuesto orgánico producido. Así, el tratamiento biológico aeróbico contribuyó al proceso de ciclo de nutrientes, permitiendo la transformación de un importante problema ambiental y de salud pública, en una solución sostenible en el campo ambiental económico y social.A forma de destinação inadequada de resíduos sólidos domiciliares é um dos desafios para a segurança ambiental mundial. Diante deste contexto, o presente artigo busca avaliar o desempenho do tratamento biológico aeróbio aplicado à fração orgânica putrescível dos resíduos sólidos domiciliares gerados em condomínio residencial vertical. O sistema experimental consistia de dois tipos de composteiras e três repetições por cada tipo com 30 kg de capacidade. Os parâmetros físicos, químicos e sanitários utilizados na pesquisa foram temperatura, aeração, teor de umidade, sólidos totais, sólidos totais voláteis, nitrogênio total, fósforo total, potássio, pH e ovos de helmintos. Os resultados da pesquisa apresentam significativos valores dos parâmetros físicos e químicos obtidos no processo de bioestabilização aeróbia e a geração de composto orgânico dentro de um bom padrão de qualidade. Para a quantidade de ovos de helmintos, esta sofreu uma redução significativa, iniciando em 4,6 ovos/gST e não sendo encontrado nenhum ovo de helminto no composto orgânico produzido.
