A measure of bullying at work: Factorial structure and invariance in different labor areas in Brazil

Resumo: With the new social-economic contemporary perspectives it is possible to evaluate the employees’ accounts about the functional demands, which highlight the existence of psychological damages, including moral harassment. This issue interferes in the functional development and productivity, especially when it comes to the organization-work-health relationship. The present article aims at checking the psychometric quality of the moral harassment scale at work with professionals from the education and health areas from a town in the countryside of the state of Paraíba, Brazil, with the participation of two hundred employees, among men and women, aged between 19 and 64 years (M = 41.56, s.d. = 12.08). Most of the respondents presented an income between 1 and 2 minimum wages and a period of employment ranging from 1 to 36 years (M = 10.77, s.d. = 8.93). Their answers include a perception scale of moral harassment at work, a Moral Harassment Affective Impact scale at work and social-demographic data. The results show that the constructs used were trustworthy, confirm the moral harassment evaluation, and that this is an existing phenomenon, no matter the respondents’ work sector. Such results offer some safety to the measure in question. They are also a diagnostic tool for human resources to follow up on the organization-work-health dynamics.

El presente artículo tiene como objetivo verificar la cualidad psicométrica de la escala del acoso moral en el ámbito laboral de profesionales de educación y salud en un municipio del interior del estado de Paraíba. Participaron 288 funcionarios, mujeres y hombres, de un município paraibano, con edades entre 19 y 64 años (M= 41,56; d.p.=12,08), la mayoría de los que contestaron cuenta con renta entre 1 y 2 salarios mínimos y tiempo de servicio entre 1 y 36 años (M=10,77; d.p.=8,93). Respondieron a la escala de Percpción de acoso moral en el mundo del trabajo, escala de Impacto Afectivo del Acoso Moral en el Trabajo y datos sociodemográficos. Los resultados revelaron que los constructos utilizados fueron confiables y corroboraron la evaluación del acoso moral y que este fenómeno existe independientemente del sector de trabajo de los respondientes. Esos resultados ofrecen seguridad a la medida en cuestión, así como es una herramienta diagnóstica en recursos humanos para acompañar la dinámica organización-trabajo-salud.Com as novas perspectivas socioeconômicas na contemporaneidade é possível avaliar os relatos dos trabalhadores sobre as exigências funcionais, as quais, salientam a existência de danos psicológicos, um dos responsáveis é o assédio moral; este problema, interfere no desenvolvimento e produtividade funcional, principalmente, na relação organização-trabalhador-saúde. O presente artigo tem como objetivo verificar a qualidade psicométrica da escala de assédio moral no trabalho em profissionais da educação e saúde no munícipio do Sertão paraibano. Participaram 288 funcionários, homens e mulheres, de um município paraibano do setor da saúde e educação, com idades de 19 a 64 anos (M = 41,56, d.p. = 12,08), a maioria dos respondentes apresentaram renda econômica entre 1 e 2 salários e tempo de serviço variando de 1 a 36 anos (M = 10,77, d.p. = 8,93). Responderam escala de percepção de assédio moral no mundo do trabalho, escala de Impacto Afetivo do Assédio Moral no Trabalho e dados sociodemográficos. Os resultados revelaram que os constructos utilizados foram confiáveis e que corroboram a avaliação do assédio moral e que este fenômeno existe, independentemente, do setor de trabalho dos respondentes.
