Resumo: Violence against women is any gender-based act that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual, psychological or distress for women. It should be addressed as a health problem where. Interdisciplinary vision is needed for follow-up or solution. It is an ecological study of multiple groups, which aims to describe the sociodemographic profile of violence against women from notifications in the Notifiable Diseases Information System of the city of Rio de Janeiro from January 2008 to 2017. 29,629 cases of violence against women were reported, predominantly in the age group of 20 to 29 years (29.1%), belonging to black/colored ethnicity (35.90%) and complete high school (11.30%). There was a predominance of physical violence with 58.9% of cases in the victim's residence (53.6%). Violence against women is a serious public health problem. Due to the magnitude of the health consequences, its confrontation is challenging, requiring interprofessional and intersectoral actions, planning, applicability and evaluation of public policies.

Se necesita una visión interdisciplinaria para el seguimiento o la solución. Se trata de un estudio ecológico de múltiples grupos, que tiene como objetivo describir el perfil sociodemográfico de la violencia contra las mujeres a partir de notificaciones en el Sistema de Información sobre Dolencias Notificables de la ciudad de Río de Janeiro de 2008 a 2017. Se reportaron 29.629 casos de violencia contra la mujer, predominantemente en el grupo de edad de 20 a 29 años (29,1%), pertenecientes a la etnia negra / mestiza (35,90%) y bachillerato completo (11,30%). Predominó la violencia física con el 58,9% de los casos en el domicilio de la víctima (53,6%). La violencia contra la mujer es un grave problema de salud pública. Por la magnitud de las consecuencias en salud, su enfrentamiento es desafiante, requiriendo acciones interprofesionales e intersectoriales, planificación, aplicabilidad y evaluación de políticas públicas.A violência contra a mulher consiste em qualquer ato baseado no gênero, que resulte, ou que venha a resultar em dano físico, sexual, psicológico ou sofrimento para a mulher e deve ser abordada como problema de saúde, no qual é necessária a visão interdisciplinar para acompanhamento ou solução do mesmo. Trata-se de estudo ecológico de múltiplos grupos, que visa descrever o perfil sociodemográfico da violência contra a mulher a partir de notificações no Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação do município do Rio de Janeiro no período de 2008 a 2017. Foram notificados 29.629 casos de violência contra as mulheres, com predominância na faixa etária de 20 a 29 anos (29,1%), pertencentes a etnia parda (35,90%) e com ensino médio completo (11,30%). Houve predomínio de violência física com 58,9% dos casos em residência da vítima (53,6%). A violência contra as mulheres constitui grave problema de saúde pública.
