Resumo: Introduction: Despite the large number of patients who have post-discharge survival from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), most of them have complications that affect their functionality. Objective: To evaluate the functional profile of patients after discharge from the intensive care unit and to identify the determining factors that influence functionality. Methodology: Longitudinal, observational and descriptive study, with a quantitative approach, including patients admitted to the ICU of a University Hospital in the State of Sergipe, from August 2018 to March 2020. As a research instrument, the Functional Independence Measure was used (MIF) in three moments: at hospital admission, to measure functional independence prior to hospital admission; at ICU admission, to measure functionality prior to ICU admission; and on the immediate rise. Results: The sample consisted of 206 patients, including 91 participants. There was a reduction in FIM at ICU admission compared to previous hospital FIM and a tendency to increase at discharge, but the values do not return to what was observed before hospital admission. In addition, older patients who used mechanical ventilation for a longer period and with a longer hospital stay were determinant for FIM after discharge from the ICU. Conclusion: It is concluded that the hospitalization process, especially in the ICU, of older patients, using mechanical ventilation and with a longer hospital stay, causes a significant reduction in functionality.

Research, Society and Development2022-09-11info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/3460610.33448/rsd-v11i12.34606Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 No. 12; e213111234606Research, Society and Development; Vol. 11 Núm. 12; e213111234606Research, Society and Development; v. 11 n. 12; e2131112346062525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/34606/28995Copyright (c) 2022 Lêda Leonôr Mendonça Carvalho; Ingrid Mendes Santos ; Maria Emília Dantas Alves ; Anne Aurielly de Almeida Silva; Johnatan Weslley Araujo Cruz ; Lucas Aragão da Hora Almeida; Telma Cristina Fontes Cerqueirahttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessCarvalho, Lêda Leonôr Mendonça Santos , Ingrid Mendes Alves , Maria Emília Dantas Silva, Anne Aurielly de Almeida Cruz , Johnatan Weslley Araujo Almeida, Lucas Aragão da Hora Cerqueira, Telma Cristina Fontes 2022-09-26T11:56:08Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/34606Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:49:50.512406Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
