Rui Barbosa's ideas for Professional Education in Brazil (1879 – 1909: between the industrial, the popular and the nation

Resumo: | Rui Barbosa (1849–1923) was a Brazilian polymath and politician with influence and diffusion of ideas between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In the field of education, between 1881 and 1886, he produced writings that demonstrate the advancement of educational discussions in the country and in the world. This article aims to analyze the ideas of this intellectual for Professional Education. Based on Certeau and Sirinelli we carry out the analysis of your place of speech, your network of sociability and your engagement. We work from Chartier's notions of representation, practice, appropriation and circulation of ideas and understand that the Barbosian production results from the author's practices from his appropriations of educational ideas in his time. Rui Barbosa's Public Education Reform Projects-Opinions, the “Design and Industrial Art” discourse and the work of Norman Calkins translated by the intellectual, “First Lessons of Things”, constitute the sources. We emphasize that Barbosa, and his writings, contributed to the consolidation of the idea of professional education systematically regulated by the State in view of its economic and social development, as well as the breadth of influence of ideas in international circulation in Rui Barbosa's works. The structuring of his thoughts on philosophy and politics of professional education and teaching methodology that is especially firm in the school discipline Drawing, were appropriated by the State when taking Professional Education initiatives in the nascent Republic. |

En el campo de la educación, entre 1881 y 1886, produjo escritos que demuestran el avance de las discusiones educativas en el país y en el mundo. Este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar las ideas de este intelectual para la Educación Profesional. En base a Certeau y Sirinelli realizamos el análisis de su lugar de discurso, su red de sociabilidad y su compromiso. Trabajamos desde las nociones de representación, práctica, apropiación y circulación de ideas de Chartier y entendemos que la producción barbosiana resulta de las prácticas del autor basadas en sus apropiaciones de las ideas educativas de su tiempo. Los Proyectos-Opiniones de Reforma de la Educación Pública de Rui Barbosa, el discurso “Diseño y Arte Industrial” y la obra de Norman Calkins traducida por el intelectual, “Primeras Lecciones de las Cosas”, constituyen las fuentes. Destacamos que Barbosa, y sus escritos, contribuyeron a la consolidación de la idea de la formación profesional sistemáticamente regulada por el Estado en vista de su desarrollo económico y social, así como la amplitud de influencia de las ideas en circulación internacional en la obra de Rui Barbosa. La estructuración de sus pensamientos sobre la filosofía y la política de la formación profesional y la metodología de la enseñanza que es especialmente firme en la disciplina escolar Dibujo, fueron apropiadas por el Estado al tomar iniciativas de Educación Profesional en la naciente República.Rui Barbosa (1849–1923) foi um polímata e político brasileiro com influência e difusão de ideias entre o final século XIX e início do XX. No campo da educação, entre 1881 e 1886, produziu escritos que demonstram avanço das discussões educacionais no país e no mundo. O presente artigo visa analisar as ideias deste intelectual para a Educação Profissional. Baseados em Certeau e Sirinelli, realizamos as análises do seu lugar de fala, sua rede de sociabilidade e seu engajamento. Trabalhamos a partir das noções de representação, prática, apropriação e circulação de ideias de Chartier e entendemos que a produção barbosiana resulta das práticas do autor a partir de suas apropriações das ideias educacionais em seu tempo. Constituem-se como fontes os Pareceres-Projetos de Reforma da Instrução Pública de Rui Barbosa, o discurso “O Desenho e a Arte Industrial” e a obra de Norman Calkins traduzida pelo intelectual, “Primeiras Lições de Coisas”. Destacamos que Barbosa, e seus escritos, contribuiu para a consolidação da ideia de uma educação profissional sistematicamente regulada pelo Estado em vista do seu desenvolvimento econômico e social, bem como a amplitude de influência das ideias em circulação internacional nas obras de Rui Barbosa.
