Scientific activity and the question of the non-neutrality of science: Hugh Lacey's epistemological perspective

Resumo: This article aims to provoke reflections on scientific activity and the non-neutrality of science, based on Hugh Lacey's theoretical perspective as an epistemological foundation. Contemplating their perceptions about values and scientific activity, the perspectives that perpetuate in contemporary science practices stand out, as well as the modern values of controls that predominate in the scientific field. Methodologically, this research is classified as bibliographic, descriptive and qualitative. The results obtained emphasize the methodological pluralism defended by the author as a necessary principle for the neutrality of science since his theory is based on the assumption that there is a dialectical relationship between science, scientific activity and human well-being. It also highlights the need for science teaching to be practiced from a critical reflexive perspective, without being relativistic since science is a socio-historical practice inserted in the world of values and human experience, undertaken by agents human beings, whose actions are explainable in terms of their beliefs, perceptions, deliberations, desires, values and other intentional opportunities.

Al contemplar sus percepciones sobre los valores y la actividad científica, se destacan las perspectivas que perpetúan en las prácticas científicas contemporáneas, así como los valores modernos de los controles que predominan en el campo científico. Metodológicamente, esta investigación se clasifica en bibliográfica, descriptiva y cualitativa. Los resultados obtenidos enfatizan el pluralismo metodológico defendido por el autor como un principio necesario para la neutralidad de la ciencia, ya que su teoría se basa en el supuesto de que existe una relación dialéctica entre la ciencia, la actividad científica y el bienestar humano. También destaca la necesidad de que la enseñanza de las ciencias se practique desde una perspectiva reflexiva crítica, sin ser relativista, ya que la ciencia es una práctica sociohistórica insertada en el mundo de los valores y la experiencia humana, realizada por agentes seres humanos, cuyas acciones son explicables en términos de sus creencias, percepciones, deliberaciones, deseos, valores y otras oportunidades intencionales.Esse artigo tem a pretensão de provocar reflexões sobre atividade científica e a não neutralidade da ciência, tendo como fundamento epistemológico a perspectiva teórica de Hugh Lacey. Contemplando suas percepções sobre os valores e a atividade científica, destacam-se as perspectivas que perpetuam nas práticas da ciência contemporânea, bem como os valores modernos de controles que predominam no campo científico. Metodologicamente, classifica-se esta pesquisa como de natureza bibliográfica, de caráter descritivo e qualitativo. Os resultados obtidos enfatizam o pluralismo metodológico defendido pelo autor como princípio necessário para a neutralidade da ciência uma vez que a sua teoria parte do pressuposto de que existe uma relação dialética entre ciência, atividade científica e bem-estar humano.
